Head of the Health Care Authority meets with the Canadian Ambassador to discuss ways of cooperation in the health sector
The Health Care Authority continues its efforts to achievegood healthfor citizens through developing the comprehensive health insurance system and raising the efficiency of medical services in hospitals and primary care units. It also focuses on improving the quality of health care provided, and applying the latest treatment protocols in accordance with the best international standards, to ensure that all citizens benefit from advanced and comprehensive health services.
Within the framework of strengthening international partnerships, the authority seeks to benefit from global medical and digital expertise and technology, through cooperation with international partners. This is to exchange experiences in continuing medical education and training, and develop therapeutic services, in a way that enhances integration between the public and private sectors and supports the improvement of the health care system in Egypt.
Supporting international partnerships and benefiting from global expertise
In this context, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Care, met with the Canadian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Ulrike Shannon, to discuss aspects of joint cooperation in the health sector. The meeting comes within the framework of supporting international partnerships and maximizing benefit from global expertise.
During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki confirmed that the Authority is focusing on benefiting from Canadian expertise and Canadian medical and digital technology, during the second phase of the comprehensive health insurance system, which contributes to supporting the Authority’s strategy for digital transformation, raising operating efficiency, and improving the quality of health care provided to citizens in accordance with the best international standards.

Aspects of cooperation with the Canadian side
The head of the Health Care Authority pointed to aspects of cooperation with the Canadian side, which included continuing medical education and training, through the exchange of experiences and the assistance of experts, in addition to launching twinning programs with specialized Canadian centers and institutes, especially in the field of oncology treatment, in a way that supports the development of therapeutic services and the application of the latest internationally approved medical protocols.
These efforts reflect the extent of the General Health Care Authority’s keenness to achieve the goals of sustainable development, by promoting good health and well-being (Goal 3), strengthening international partnerships to transfer knowledge and expertise (Goal 17), and developing continuing medical education and training in a way that contributes to building qualified human capabilities that support the advanced health care system.
Medical tourism and green transformation
The meeting also discussed expanding areas of cooperation to include supporting medical tourism and strengthening Egypt’s position as a destination for advanced health care, and supporting the Canadian community in comprehensive health insurance governorates, especially tourist governorates such as: Luxor, Aswan, and South Sinai, with advanced treatment packages during their visit to Egypt, in addition to accelerating the pace of green transformation in the health sector, by adopting environmentally friendly practices within health facilities, rationalizing energy consumption, and supporting the sustainability of health systems.
In this context, it was agreed to hold a specialized workshop sponsored by the Canadian Embassy, which includes representatives of the Health Care Authority and its counterparts in Canada, in addition to Canadian companies operating in Egypt, with the aim of strengthening the partnership within the model of integration between the public and private sectors, and benefiting from the Canadian experience in supporting health investments and transferring technology and expertise.

Comprehensive health insurance
The head of the General Authority for Health Care pointed out that the second phase of the comprehensive health insurance system, which includes 65 hospitals and 450 primary care facilities, represents a qualitative leap in the path of comprehensive health coverage, with the geographical and service expansion it provides that enhances the availability of services to citizens with higher quality and efficiency.
He also stressed that this expansion requires deepening the benefit of international expertise and pioneering experiences, especially in the areas of digital transformation, raising operating efficiency, and applying the latest treatment protocols, to ensure unification of performance standards within all new facilities.
He pointed out that the Canadian experience represents an advanced model in integrating the roles between the public and private sectors, and in supporting health innovation and investment in medical technology, which supports the Authority’s direction towards building a sustainable health system, capable of competing regionally and attracting more opportunities for cooperation and medical tourism.
In light of the agreement witnessed by the meeting to deepen cooperation and expand its fields, the features of a new phase are evident in the path of developing the Egyptian health sector, based on the transfer of knowledge, the localization of technology, and building human capabilities capable of keeping pace with global developments. Integration with expertise reflects a strategic vision that seeks to establish a more efficient and sustainable comprehensive health insurance system, supported by digital transformation and green practices.
