According to global indicators.. Egypt is among the best environments supporting entrepreneurship in Africa and the world
On August 5, 2025, the Media Center of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers announced, via its official Facebook page, that Egypt had achieved a new qualitative leap in its regional and global ranking in the Global Ecosystem Index for Startups, after advancing to 65th place in the world.
Egypt has thus recorded its highest regional rank since joining the classification, in a step that is clear evidence of the maturity of the entrepreneurship environment in Egypt, and its increasing ability to absorb the economic transformations associated with green transformation and sustainable development.
It should be noted that the Startup Ecosystem Index is an international analytical tool related to the entrepreneurship environment, issued by theStartup Blink platform, which is a platform that aims to classify countries and cities according to the quality and integrity of their incubating environments for startups.
The index measures the performance of 188 countries and 1,473 cities based on quantitative and qualitative data, including the level of innovation, availability of capital, digital infrastructure, number of active startups, and supportive government policies within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Cairo ranks second in Africa in entrepreneurship
Among the approximately 1,400 cities included in the classification, Cairo was able to rank 90th this year, after being in 180th place in 2021, achieving its best ranking so far. At the African level, Cairo has maintained second place since 2023, in an index that has become used globally to measure the maturity and integration of the startup environment.
This global index relies on thousands of diverse data, and is based on a scientific evaluation of three main pillars: She is:
- Governance: Meaning the quality of regulation, legal framework and transparency.
- Quality: This means the efficiency of services provided to emerging companies and the readiness of the supportive environment.
- Business Vision:It indicates the clarity of the investment vision and opportunities available in the country.
The index is one of the important analytical tools that allows investors and decision makers to understand the ecosystem that supports entrepreneurship around the world.
These indicators pave the way for the importance of viewing Cairo as a pioneering city in the field of technology and innovation in the region, which requires thinking about how to build on this achievement to push more green investments in vital sectors such as sustainable transportation and clean energy.

Egypt is among the best three entrepreneurial ecosystems in Africa
On the continental level, Egypt was ranked third in Africa, which is its highest rank since it joined the list of the top five African countries in the index in 2021. This ranking reveals Egypt’s transformation into a rising regional center for emerging companies, especially in light of the rapid expansion of digital infrastructure, and the growing government interest in supporting the knowledge-based economy.
This boom comes as a cumulative result of a series of policies aimed at empowering entrepreneurs, including simplifying procedures, providing business incubators, and strengthening partnerships with international institutions. The high population density, which exceeds 110 million people, and the size of the promising local market, also contributed to making Egypt an attractive environment for emerging projects, which is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in terms of creating job opportunities and enhancing local production.
This represents an opportunity to review policies related to education and entrepreneurship, to direct more attention to disciplines that serve the green economy, and enable young people to lead projects that contribute to environmental sustainability and social justice.
Specific opportunities for emerging companies in the green economy
The global index highlighted that the Egyptian ecosystem shows great opportunities in emerging sectors related to sustainable development, including: agricultural technology, energy efficiency, and low- or no-emission vehicles, and these sectors are considered among the most promising fields in the near future, due to the environmental and economic returns they achieve at the same time.
Agritech, for example, is about creating digital solutions to address agricultural challenges, such as water scarcity and soil degradation. As for energy efficiency, it is linked to technologies that reduce consumption and reduce emissions, while low-emission vehicles represent a fundamental pillar of the shift towards sustainable transportation.
If these trends are properly exploited, Egypt can become a regional center for developing innovative environmental solutions. Which strengthens its position in global rankings and opens new horizons for international cooperation in the fields of green technology.

Emerging projects in Egypt embody a true pillar of sustainable development, because of the potential they hold in providing new solutions to challenges at all levels, and providing decent job opportunities in multiple fields. This trend comes at the heart of the global agenda that seeks to align economic growth with the protection of resources, which is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal (8) concerned with decent work and economic growth, Goal (9) related to innovation, and Goal (13) related to work. Climate.
In this context, theThe Earth Guards Foundation views Egypt’s progress in classifying the startup ecosystem as an indicator of the maturity of the path towards a more resilient and sustainable economy, and calls for continued investment in sectors with a positive impact, building an entrepreneurial environment that promotes the responsible use of technology, and stimulates business models that take into account climate and social justice within a clear national framework.
