It is an international day that the peoples of the world use to support strategies for empowering women everywhere, which makes it one of the steps to strengthen their rights – socially, economically and culturally – to ensure the implementation of the aspirations and hopes of all parts of society.
This year – the year 2024 – is the second year in a row, in which the Earth Guards participate in the celebration of International Women’s Day, by highlighting the achievements of prominent Egyptian and Arab women and pioneers – scientifically and practically – in their fields; Therefore, in the coming days, the magazine will accompany you through a journey – a series of articles on International Women’s Day – expressing honorable feminist models whose professional career has shone in the skies of Egypt and the Arab world, and this is through achievements that have inspired women of the whole world. So that empowering them will be a just way of life and a form of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As for the heroine of this article, she is engineer Yasmine Mansour, Director of the Sustainability Office atThe American University in Cairo, who began her scientific career by obtaining a certificate in the field of facilities sustainability (SFP), and another certificate in facilities management (FMP) from the International Facilities Management Association, then she obtained a master’s degree with honors in construction management from the university. Engineer Yasmine Mansour grew up in Cairo, and at her university – Ain Shams University – she graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree with honors in architecture – Department of Urban Planning Management. With her mastery of languages and her cognitive abilities, she was able to open a door to a bright tomorrow and promising horizons for herself.
These skills and abilities made engineer Yasmine Mansour an expert in curriculum development, and capable of setting international standards in facilities management with the latest sustainability systems. She is also a certified trainer in executive education at the American University in Cairo, as well as an “SFM” trainer at the same university, in addition to being a member of the “ISO/TC 267” Facilities Management Committee.
Over 15 years in the field of facilities management, the Director of the Office of Sustainability at the American University in Cairo has addressed many environmental challenges, such as:Climate change, resource scarcity, pollution, and waste management. Her years of experience were based on consolidating the foundations of sustainable development, as a cultural approach closely related to “Egypt Vision 2030.”
Then her development experiences and sustainable efforts extended until engineer Yasmine Mansour became a specialist in writing sustainable development reports and its goals at the global level. It developed the “UN Global Compact for Sustainable Development – Communicating Commitment” report for the American University in Cairo, which highlights the university’s commitment to the UN principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Engineer Yasmine Mansour recently joined the advisory committee of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and thus seeks to improve the operations of the American University, strengthen its financial resources, and consolidate its reputation as a leader in the field of sustainability locally and globally. To be the ideal model for Egyptian and Arab women.
