The pharmaceutical industry represents one of the strategic axes for achievingsustainable development, due to its direct role in supporting the right to health, enhancing the ability of countries to confront health crises and ensuring the continued provision of safe and effective medicine. International cooperation in this sector is gaining increasing importance, as it is an effective tool for localizing the pharmaceutical industry, transferring technology, and enhancing the efficiency of supply chains, in line with the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on good health and well-being, and the ninth goal on industry and innovation.
In this context, the Indo-Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries Forum reflects an advanced model of development partnerships based on exchanging experiences and maximizing the benefit of the manufacturing and regulatory capabilities of the two countries, in a way that supports pharmaceutical security, stimulates investment, and enhances the competitiveness of the national industry.
The forum also embodies a practical translation of the seventeenth goal concerned with strengthening global partnerships, and confirms Egypt’s direction towards consolidating its position as a regional center for pharmaceutical industries and regulation, in a way that serves the goals of sustainable development socially, economically and environmentally in the long term.
Indian-Egyptian Forum for Pharmaceutical Industries
Within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of India in the fields of health care and pharmaceutical industries, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority, participated in the opening of the activities of the Indian-Egyptian Forum for Pharmaceutical Industries.
The opening session witnessed the presence of Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Gamal El-Laithi, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Industry Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, Dr. Ashraf El-Kholy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Holding Pharmaceutical Company, and Dr. Adel Adawi, former Minister of Health.
An Indian delegation including about (70) Indian pharmaceutical companies also participated in the forum, under the auspices of the Indian Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil), in the context of following up on the outcomes of the bilateral meetings held between Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi and Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda, His Excellency the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of the Republic of India, on the sidelines of the round table held in November 2025, which reflects the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries and their keenness to expand Prospects of partnership in the pharmaceutical industry sector.
Promising opportunities for investment and expansion
During his speech at the opening session, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi emphasized the strategic importance of the Egyptian market in the fields of pharmaceutical raw materials and medical preparations, and the promising opportunities it provides for investment and expansion, pointing to the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority in supporting the localization of the pharmaceutical industry, and promoting diversification and securing sources of raw materials, in a way that contributes to achieving pharmaceutical security and ensuring the sustainability of supply chains.

Al-Ghamrawi indicated that the Authority attaches special importance to enhancing cooperation with international partners and global regulatory bodies, which contributes to harmonizing regulatory standards, facilitating access to high-quality medical preparations, and supporting the transfer of technology and expertise, stressing the Authority’s keenness to provide a regulatory environment that is attractive and stimulating for investment, enhances the competitiveness of the national industry and consolidates Egypt’s position regionally in the field of pharmaceutical industries and regulation.
Vital areas addressed by the forum’s activities
The forum’s activities addressed a number of vital areas, including active pharmaceutical raw materials (APIs), finished pharmaceutical preparations, veterinary preparations, medical devices and surgical supplies, nutritional supplements, therapeutic cosmetics, and various pharmaceutical pharmaceutical forms (Pellets), in addition to injectable preparations, reflecting the diversity of possible areas of cooperation between the two sides.
The forum also witnessed direct bilateral meetings between representatives of Indian and Egyptian companies (Buyer – Seller Meet), in addition to meetings with industrial associations and government officials. With the aim of examining opportunities for joint cooperation, technology transfer, and increasing the volume of trade and investment exchange in the pharmaceutical industry sector.
Enhancing bilateral meetings between Egyptian and Indian companies
For his part, Indian Ambassador Suresh K. confirmed. Reddy stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral meetings between Egyptian and Indian companies, noting that the forum represents an ideal platform for expanding the horizons of pharmaceutical cooperation, increasing joint investments, and transferring expertise and technology, in a way that enhances the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt and reflects the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries.
He praised the pioneering role played by the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority in supporting the localization of the pharmaceutical industry and enhancing the quality of pharmaceutical preparations, stressing that Egypt is a pivotal strategic partner for India in the region, and that cooperation with the Authority represents a distinguished model for exchanging expertise and transferring technology, which contributes to enhancing drug security and developing the pharmaceutical sector at the regional and international levels.
Participation reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s keenness to strengthen international cooperation frameworks and exchange technical and scientific expertise with international partners, thus contributing to the development of the drug regulatory system and supporting Egypt’s pioneering role as a regional center in the field of drug regulation.

In conclusion, the Egyptian-Indian Pharmaceutical Industries Forum embodies a practical shift in the path of international cooperation from traditional trade exchange to a development partnership based on the localization of the pharmaceutical industry, technology transfer, and strengthening organizational capabilities.
