In South Korea, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin participated in the thirty-sixth meeting held by the Board of Directors of theGreen Climate Fund, where he “the United Nations Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Climate Pioneer of the Egyptian Presidency of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP27)” confirmed that the financing process It is gaining great momentum among those who are likely to contribute to supporting this fund and its beneficiaries, drawing attention to the fact that it is one of the most important financing mobilization processes to enhance climate action.
There, Mohieddin said: “There are European countries that have shown an actual commitment and pledge to contribute to the process of replenishing the Fund’s resources. “Because it is an important fund to stimulate financing for climate action.” The Egyptian climate pioneer reported that last April witnessed the second consultative meeting, which was held to replenish the fund and its resources, where the discussions of its participants were intense and had many dimensions and contents, to reconsider the contributions and their policies.
In the same context, Muhyiddin referred to the pledges made by Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Principality of Monaco; Therefore, he extended his sincere thanks to these countries for their serious commitment to the Green Climate Fund and the climate action agenda in a broad and profound manner.

Hence, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieddin made broad movements in many directions. During the past period, he held meetings with officials of a number of international organizations, other meetings with directors of multilateral development banks – such as the Islamic Development Bank – and meetings with officials of the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties (COP), which will be held – soon – in the Emirates. These meetings revolved around cooperation in the development partnership file with the private sector, and efforts to mobilize the necessary funds for climate action.
In response to this, Mohieldin confirmed that he was able to exploit these meetings to support the process of renewing the Green Climate Fund and its resources, through his participation in many conferences, namely: Spring Meetings –Bonn Climate Conference – Paris Summit for a new global financial compact, and other relevant international conferences.
Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin also expected that he would work during the upcoming regional – as well as international – conferences to increase momentum around the process of renewing the Green Fund, and to expand the scope of its contributors, who represent the countries capable of commitment and financing, as well as the beneficiaries of this funding from developing countries. He also explained that this process will receive special attention during the United Nations General Assembly next September, coinciding with many countries announcing their commitments and pledges to contribute to financing climate action.
In conclusion, Mohieldin expressed his confidence in the Green Climate Fund; Because it has a vital and effective role in financing climate action globally. It is expected that this role will increase through the presence of the Fund within regional plans, and enhancing its expected positive impact on climate action socially and economically, as well as raising levels of cooperation and partnership between the government and private sectors, and enhancing communication between actors, stakeholders, and potential partners.
