In recognition of this accelerating global reality, and to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Egypt’s universities are playing their role in achieving Egyptian scientific leadership, and accordingly, 45 Egyptian universities were included in the Times University Impact Ranking for the year 2026. This reflects the extent of development witnessed by the higher education and scientific research system at the level of scientific and practical performance.

A growing Egyptian presence in international rankings

The results of the “Times Higher Education Impact Rankings” revealed remarkable progress for Egyptian universities in a number of indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Egyptian educational institutions have succeeded in achieving advanced global positions among the top 100 universities in several main goals, which reflects the breadth of their scientific contribution in facing contemporary development challenges.

The results of the classification showed the presence of a number of Egyptian universities in advanced ranks at the global level, as Aswan University came in the category (101-200), while the universities of Alexandria, Cairo, Ain Shams, Mansoura, Assiut – and others – continued to strengthen their positions within the classification.

Qualitative achievements in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

What draws attention regarding this Egyptian scientific achievement is that the progress achieved by Egyptian universities in a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has a direct impact on the lives of citizens and the future of the Egyptian economy, in a way that preserves their rights for future generations.

This is because the Universities of Cairo and Aswan have achieved advanced positions in the field of eradicating poverty and hunger, for example, and New Giza University also emerged in the goal of good health and well-being, and the University of Alexandria recorded a notable achievement by obtaining eighth place globally in achieving the goal of “clean and affordable energy,” which reflects the volume of research and scientific efforts related to issues of green transformation and renewable energy.

Regarding this achievement, Dr. Abdel Aziz Qanswa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, confirmed that the results achieved by Egyptian universities indicate the extent of their commitment to their development role, and this is through improving the quality of education and scientific research, expanding the scope of local and international partnerships, and adopting institutional practices that support sustainability and achieve its goals.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Qanswa also indicated that the Ministry continues to work on integrating the principles of sustainable development into various academic, research and service activities, in a way that supports the goals of “Egypt Vision 2030” and enhances the position of Egyptian universities in international classifications.

The results of the classification also confirm that progress in sustainability indicators is closely related to the development of the scientific research system and the quality of academic outputs. Because the higher the rates of influential scientific publishing, the greater the international research partnerships, the greater the contribution of universities in solving societal problems, and the greater their chances of achieving advanced positions globally.
