“COP27” – chaired by Egypt – remains fresh in the minds of the world, and it is the conference thatthe United Nations praised the extent of Egypt’s skill in managing it and actually implementing its recommendations. Among the achievements of this conference, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, was the financing of development and climate projects through the “National Initiative for Smart Green Projects”.
Hence, the General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects – Ambassador Hisham Badr – participated in a special meeting organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (DepartmentSustainable Development and International Cooperation), headed by Ambassador Nada Al-Agizi, and in the presence of representatives of Arab countries and development partners, where Ambassador Hisham Badr conveyed the interest of initiative officials in circulating it among Arab countries; Because it is a unique model at the regional and global levels.
The ambassador then went on, explaining that the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects takes into account all governorates of the Republic of Egypt, and that it supports development work in its villages and rural areas. Drawing attention to the fact that the initiative’s projects provide solutions to what society may face in the future, stressing that the goal of the initiative is limited to providing these innovative solutions on the ground.

He also added that the initiative is an applied idea that seeks to involve all segments of society in environmental and development projects that achievegoalssustainable development. Badr also indicated the readiness of the work team implementing the initiative’s axes to transfer their expertise, and this will happen by presenting the projects that won the initiative to the parties of the Climate Conference “COP28”, which will be held in the UAE.
Then the ambassador spoke about the database of smart green projects, participating in the first rounds of the initiative, as this database has an important role in linking these projects with investors. He explained that it is a database that was able to draw a map showing the geographical locations of these projects. Hence, the initiative officials were able to determine the nature of each project in a way that would help the investor reach his needs.
On the other hand, Ambassador Hisham Badr spoke about the winning projects in the initiative, for which partnerships were concluded with prestigious international organizations. So that these projects can be financed; He gave the example of the projectCombat Palm Weevils in the Suez Governorate, in addition to projects presented by Egyptian women in the Fayoum Governorate, entitled “Golden Hands”, as well as the Alexandria project “Computer Waste”, which will work to transform this type of waste into Machines for separating and cutting metals, then the “Bab Rizq” project at the College of Applied Arts, which aims to manufacture women’s jewelry from scrap, and the North Sinai project, which was implemented by an Egyptian woman by growing a plant that absorbs oils and water pollutants, and it is a project adopted by oil companies.
For its part, the Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the League of Arab States – Dr. Nada Al-Agizi – affirmed theArab League’s keennessto strengthen Egyptian efforts that seek to benefit from the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, and to discuss ways to strengthen strategic partnerships between the initiative and Arab development institutions.
In conclusion, Al-Agizi added that spreading this Egyptian initiative among all Arab countries is important. Because it is an initiative that has a significant impact in enhancing Arab societal awareness about the phenomenon of climate change and its clear effects on sustainable development issues.
