Maha Aqeel..a pioneering Arab model

In the next few days, the world will celebrate “International Women’s Day,” which falls on March 8th every year, during which the United Nations, UNICEF, and the entire world seek to highlight the role of women in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an international day that the peoples of the world use to support strategies for empowering women everywhere, which makes it one of the steps to strengthen their rights – socially, economically and culturally – to ensure the implementation of the aspirations and hopes of all parts of society.

This year – 2024 – is the second year in a row, in which the Earth Guards participate in the celebration of International Women’s Day, by highlighting the achievements of prominent Egyptian and Arab women and pioneers – scientifically and practically – in their fields; Therefore, in the coming days, the magazine will accompany you through a journey – a series of articles on International Women’s Day – expressing honorable feminist models whose professional career has shone in the skies of Egypt and the Arab world, and this is through achievements that have inspired women of the whole world. So that empowering them will be a just way of life and a form of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As for the heroine of this article, she is Professor Maha Aqeel, “Director of the Media Department of theOrganization of Islamic Cooperation”, whose professional career reflects the extent of Arab leadership in the field of developing international strategies and programs, and the rich record of Arab women’s achievements in the field of leadership of international organizations and institutions.

She is the prominent Arab mentality, with scientific and artistic experience extending over 20 years. She began her career by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in media, after which she obtained a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in cultural and media studies from the Canadian University of Calgary. She also recently obtained a master’s degree in women’s studies and international politics from the University of London in Britain.

After these academic degrees qualified her to lead major institutions, Professor Maha Aqeel succeeded in becoming the first Saudi woman to join the United Nations Women in Leadership Programme, which qualifies a selected group of women from the world for leadership positions in the United Nations. Therefore, it became an essential participant in the training programs and activities prepared by the United Nations.

Mrs. Maha Aqeel’s leadership was not limited to the United Nations and its development programs only, but she was the first woman to be appointed to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which helped her establish the organization’s magazine, and there she developed development and administrative strategies and programs with unparalleled efficiency.

With all of this, Professor Maha Aqeel confirmed the capabilities of Arab women in building and developing the resources of major global institutions, and at that time she helped establish the Women’s Development Organization, which is the most prominent field in the efforts of her professional career. She is an international consultant in the field ofWomen Empowerment, in addition to the fields of social development and media.

 Professor Maha Aqeel writes with a distinguished journalistic spirit in Arab and international magazines and newspapers. She works as a lecturer in the Department of Diplomacy and International Relations at Dar Al-Hekma University in Jeddah, and practices various cultural activities. To truly be a pioneering Arab model and a role model for all women in the world.
