Climate transparency is at the forefront.. The Baku Declaration brings the world together to achieve sustainable development

In a world facing increasing environmental challenges, climate transparency is one of the main axes for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is a global measure based on a number of important steps, such as international cooperation and information exchange. Based on the fact that global efforts are more capable of achieving the desired impact on issues of combating climate change.

Given the importance of climate transparency in promoting climate action at the global level, the Azerbaijani Presidency of the Twenty-Ninth Conference of the Parties (COP) decided to advance the date of the “Baku Declaration on Climate Transparency,” as a real step towards consolidating trust between countries. In order to work together to confront common climate challenges.

With regard to this announcement, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan – Mukhtar Babaev – and the President of COP29 expressed his great pride and great thanks to the States Parties and participants in the Twenty-Ninth Conference of the Parties (COP) for agreeing to submit the Baku Declaration on Global Climate Transparency. Babaev also stressed that this paints a picture of the current collective action on the climate issue, considering the “Baku Declaration” an important addition to global climate action, and this is in parallel with the “Baku Transparency Platform.” This provides all countries of the world with new mechanisms to support effective climate action.

The statements of the President ofCOP29 – Mukhtar Babaev – came during his participation in a dialogue session entitled: “The Round Table of Ministers on Global Climate Transparency,” which witnessed ministerial attendance from Japan, South Africa, the United States, Italy, Kazakhstan, and other countries.

In that dialogue session in the Blue Zone – within the COP29 activities – “Babaev” stressed the importance of transparency reports; They are reports that help states parties enhance confidence among themselves and support climate ambitions, which can be summarized in implementing financing pledges to combat climate change, increasing green investments, and supporting countries affected by severe climate change.

Enhancing transparency in climate action is not just a technical step, but rather a procedural commitment that advances the wheel of sustainable development towards achieving more achievements in the field of confronting climate challenges in a more coordinated and effective manner. Which paves the way to a more sustainable world.
