Dr.Mahmoud Mohieldinis still seeking to support climate action – locally and regionally – and is making his efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in line with “Egypt Vision 2030”; Therefore, he stressed the importance of generalizing these efforts among the countries of the African continent.
Mahmoud Mohieldin, “UN Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Climate Champion for the Egyptian Presidency of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention on Climate ChangeCOP27, and Chair of the Advisory Board of the African Network of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero Emissions – Givans,” has called for implementation Projects specialized in reducing carbon emissions, in cooperation with “Givans,” and by focusing on projects related to clean energy.
Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin’s call focused on building a sustainable future across the African continent, and this is when he delivered his speech as the Chairman of the meeting of the African Network Council of the Givens Alliance, where both: “Leslie Ndelfo” “Executive Director of the African Capacity Support Group to Address Climate Change Risks” and “Vera Songwe” “Co-Chair of the High-Level Expert Group on Climate Action Financing” were present. “Solomon Kuynor, Vice President of the African Development Bank for Private Sector, Infrastructure and Industrialization”, “Samaila Zubairu”, “President of the African Finance Corporation”, and “Executive Director of the Ninety One Foundation” “Hendrick du Toit”.
There, Mahmoud Mohieldin said: “The two meetings discussed the priorities for climate action in the continent of Africa, which are the priorities that will be among the topics of the Africa Climate Summit, which will be held in Kenya early next September.” Regarding these priorities, he explained that strengthening development and climate efforts – internationally and regionally – comes first among these priorities.
In this context, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin indicated that members of the African Network Council are helping the “Givens Alliance” to form support teams that work to advance the efforts of African countries in the areas of climate and development, with a special focus on financing projects that promote green energy. These teams also help in providing the necessary capabilities for these clean projects and building mechanisms capable of supporting International partnerships; For a comprehensive transformation in the field of energy, and to advance efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Regarding these priorities, Mahmoud Mohieldin added that among them is working to support climate projects recommended by the “African Regional Forum for Financing Climate Projects”, drawing attention to the fact that support for these climate projects will be through mobilizing the necessary funds in an effective, comprehensive and fair manner.

He also said: “Among these priorities are: supporting the expansion of voluntary carbon markets, as well as supporting the African Carbon Markets Initiative, then encouraging cooperation between the private sector and multilateral development banks; In order to finance and implement climate action throughout Africa.”
On the other hand, the GFANZ Alliance African Network Council meeting – which was chaired by Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin – witnessed the Glasgow Alliance Secretariat commending the Director of the “GFANZ Afric” Group, the new Director seconded from the African Development Bank, “Timothy Afful Compson”, who will work to provide tools that have an impact on reducing the risks of financing and implementing African climate projects, which are integrated with existing tools; In order to fulfill the obligations of international financial institutions.
The chairmanship of Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin of the African Network Council of the Jevanz Alliance also witnessed the invitation of Ms. Kavita Sinha, “Director of the Private Sector at the Green Climate Fund,” as an observer of the meeting; In order to showcase the efforts of the Green Climate Fund, and shed light on its role in the African continent through a group of partnerships and projects that are already in place, in addition to examining the possibilities of future cooperation, especially with the private sector, as it is an essential partner in combating climate change and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
