COP29 comes at a time when climate challenges are escalating, and there is an urgent need to achievesustainable developmentin all sectors. This is why COP 29 stands out as a vital global platform through which the world discusses ways to finance sustainable development projects and climate action. In it – that is, in COP29 – the countries of the world exchange their experiences and innovations capable of strengthening efforts to combat climate change.
Hence, talking about Egyptian experiences in promoting climate action becomes a matter of interest, especially after Egypt made strenuous efforts in this regard at COP27, which was highlighted by Dr. Rania Al-Mashat – Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation – through her prominent participation in the activities of the twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties (COP), held in the Azerbaijani capital – Baku – under the slogan “Investing in a Livable Planet.” For everyone.”
During her participation in COP29, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat focuses on Egypt’s international efforts in the field of promoting climate action, and the related issues of climate finance and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation also reviews Egypt’s national efforts to achieve a transition towards a green economy, which are efforts that come in the context of sustainable development strategies and “Egypt Vision 2030“.
In confirmation of the importance of these Egyptian efforts in promoting climate action at the regional and international levels – Al-Mashat drew the attention of the international community to the necessity of providing the necessary financing to developing countries in a fair and comprehensive manner, and in a way that balances the requirements of development and the needs of adaptation to the effects of climate change.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat also pointed to the role of structural reform, which was implemented by the Egyptian government in all its development efforts, and also pointed out that this structural reform helped – without a doubt – to improve the Egyptian economy, while contributing to pushing the Egyptian market – with its diverse industries – towards competing at the global level.
In the same context, the Minister – Dr. Rania Al-Mashat – reviewed the role of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the permanent benefit of all segments of Egyptian society. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat noted that the work of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation is based on three pillars: The first: formulating development policies, the second: building a flexible and stable economy, and the last: maximizing benefit from local and international financing.
In conclusion, these Egyptian participations in a global conference such as the twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties (COP) reflect Egypt’s pioneering role in the field of environment and development, as countries of the world exchange environmental and development visions and experiences on a large scale. In order to achieve the goals of climate and sustainable development in a way that preserves nature and its resources for us and for future generations.
