There are many movements that support the field of environmental protection at the level of the African continent, and they are necessary efforts to reduce environmental degradation and climate change, which have become the scourge of the modern industrial age. Therefore, Egypt is working with its partners on the African continent – north and south – to enhance cooperation in the environmental field, and this is in addition to a prominent partnership between it and environmental protection agencies on the African continent.
Digital Environmental Platforms
Based on the efforts to protect the environment at the level of regional cooperation, many parties are working to deepen such environmental efforts, by launching digital platforms that enable countries and relevant institutions to exchange environmental data, and to increase communication between actors in this important field. To enhance the interaction between environmental science and policies that limit everything that harms the planet.
For those goals that contribute to increasing interest in the environment and protecting its resources, the second round table meeting of the African Forum of Environmental Protection Agencies (AFEPA) was held yesterday, Tuesday. It is organized by the Regional Office for Africa, affiliated with the United Nations Environment Programme, in partnership with the Sustainability Program in Africa, affiliated with the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDAR). The meeting activities are scheduled to continue until the fifth of December.
Protecting the environment through the eyes of diplomacy
The second round table meeting of the African Forum of Environmental Protection Agencies will address regional cooperation and efforts in the field of environmental monitoring, with an interest in strengthening environmental compliance mechanisms and activating all aspects of solidarity between diplomats and environmental protection agencies working in Africa. The meeting’s participants will also focus on reviewing the forum’s plan and developing it in line with environmental priorities on the African continent.
Looking back, it becomes clear that this round table – the second in the history of the forum – is basing its current activities on the results of the meeting of the African Environment Agency, which was held in Kigali – the capital of Rwanda – where it was under the auspices of the African Ministerial Environment Conference (AMCEN).
At that regional meeting – in 2023 – the African Forum of Environmental Protection Agencies was established; To be a decisive platform and a broad step towards strengthening cooperation between environmental protection agencies in Africa, as well as supporting the implementation of environmental policies in a more informed manner.
The United Nations is an international partner
It is expected that in the next three days, technical discussion sessions will be held between the heads of environmental protection agencies and officials of environmental departments in African countries, in addition to members of the African Group in Nairobi, as well as the Committee of Permanent Representatives of theUnited Nations Environment Programme, in the presence of regional and international experts working in the field of environmental protection.
