Future cities in Egypt between innovation and sustainability

Future cities in Egypt between innovation and sustainability
In a world that is rapidly striving towardssustainabilityand innovation, attention is turning to Egypt, where work is underway to create smart cities that redefine the concepts of modern life. These cities are not just infrastructure projects, but rather future visions that seek to achieve a balance between environment and development.
In this article, Earth Guards will explore these Egyptian steps, and answer an important question: It is: How did Egypt become a global model in the field of smart cities, and the extent of this impact on improving the quality of life of Egyptians? So keep reading.
Between history and the future
In the land of the great pyramids, Egypt is witnessing a new urban renaissance that redefines its historical features. Fourth generation cities, for example, are not just places for housing, but rather are future models based on renewable energy and smart technology, combining green infrastructure and multi-modal transportation networks. This sustainable transformation aims to improve the quality of life and strengthen the economy by creating integrated sustainable communities.
Smart and sustainable cities
Egypt’s urban steps depend on establishing dozens of smart cities, such as the New Administrative Capital, which is located 45 kilometers east of Cairo.

This city is not just a treatment for increasing population growth, but rather a model of sustainable living, as it includes advanced government buildings, foreign embassies, and public parks such as the “Green River,” which is more than twice the size of Central Park in New York. These buildings were designed to be technologically advanced, with ultra-modern infrastructure.
Economic and development transformations
In light of the economic reforms that began in 2016, Egypt showed economic flexibility that made it one of the few countries that achieved positive growth during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation – Dr. Rania Al-Mashat – confirmed that smart city projects play a pivotal role in strengthening the economy, as the construction sector represents more than 15% of the gross domestic product.
New cities with a spirit of innovation
Looking at New Alamein, we find that it is one of Egypt’s most ambitious projects. It is a city extending over an area of 50,000 acres, and aims to attract 3 million people. It is considered Egypt’s gateway to Africa, and includes the El Alamein Towers, which will be the tallest on the Mediterranean coast, in addition to tourist and historical projects.

On the other hand, New Mansoura City shines with projects extending over two kilometers, such as the Nile Tourist Corniche and the “Marina” Resort, in addition to an international university, a medical city, and centers for scientific research.
Renewable energy: from deficit to surplus
Renewable energy plays an essential role in operating fourth generation cities. Thanks to the integrated sustainable energy strategy, Egypt aims to generate 42% of energy based on renewable sources by 2035.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat points to the major transformations in the electricity sector, as production increased from 15,000 megawatts to 60,000 megawatts. Which enabled Egypt to export electricity to countries such as Libya, Jordan, and Sudan.
Focus on Education and Technology
The matter is not limited to infrastructure only, but the most important element of investment revolves around human capital, as the Administrative Capital has six universities that focus on vocational training, at a time when the government seeks to enhance education in the fields of science, engineering, and technology through STEM schools. It is an educational system that seeks to enhance competitiveness among students in the fields of science, technology, and mathematics, in addition to focusing on developing the skills of distinguished students in these scientific disciplines.
In conclusion,Earth Guards emphasizes the importance of focusing on sustainable projects, and seeking integration between modern technology and clean energy. This approach is not just a local plan, but rather a global model for sustainable development. It consolidates Egypt’s leading position in building future cities.
