A meeting was held in Egypt that reflects the extent of the close friendship relations between Egypt and Japan, in which Dr. Mohamed Maait, “Minister of Finance,” and “Kato Ken,” “Head of the Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency –JICA,” signed an agreement for concessional development financing, amounting to about 44 billion Japanese yen, in support of the efforts made by the state to achieve health coverage that includes the citizens of Egypt. Dr. Mohamed Moait saw that the Egyptian-Japanese agreement is a step towards development cooperation between the two countries, and will also contribute to supporting efforts to complete the extension of the umbrella of the national projectfor comprehensive health insurancein all governorates of Egypt; As a major tool for providingcomprehensive health care with high quality and appropriate cost, and for reforming the health sector, in a way that enhances the operational capabilities of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, and helps complete the implementation of the new system within the next seven years, then achieve the desired goals in parallel with the planned timetable. The meeting was attended by: Shino Masao, Chief Representative of the JICA Office in Egypt, Oka Hiroshi, Japanese Ambassador to Cairo, Mai Farid, Assistant to the Minister for Economic Justice, Ambassador Dr. Hossam Hussein, Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Relations, and Doaa Hamdy, Head of the Foreign Relations Unit.
The Minister pointed out the extent of the Egyptian state’s keenness to learn from Japanese experiences in all fields, especiallyHealth sector; This is part of Egypt’s endeavor to cooperate with development partners around the world, in a way that suits the unprecedented development movement in Egypt. It is a movement that aims to establish the foundations of a decent life for all citizens, taking into account the human development sectors, including its two pillars: health and education. This is in implementation of the strategy of building the Egyptian human being. The Minister of Finance also drew attention to the fact that it had been decided to extend the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance – before the end of the current fiscal year – to the governorates of the first phase: Suez, Aswan, and South Sinai. Then complete the rest of the governorates successively.

In the same context, the delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency – JICA praised the ambitious efforts made by the Egyptian government, as a path towards expanding the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance, as the delegation affirmed its great interest in providing support to the Egyptian side in this field, and transferring Japanese expertise inmodernizing the health system; To provide comprehensive health care throughout Egypt.
