Vodafone…the story of the institution that won the Earth Guards Shield well-deserved

Environmental changes around the world have severe effects, not only in rising temperatures, causing floods, and other effects that can afflict the world with drought, desertification, and the death of living organisms – but rather these environmental changes have noticeable effects on the way people think; Therefore, we must all rebuild our understandings and views of environmental work, and how it can be viewed by the financial and business sector. So that our investment becomes a green investment, an investment that meets the desires for financial profit and expectations of social responsibility at the same time.

Hence the “Earth Guards” magazine spared no effort in its effort to achieve this equation that it has always believed in, using in this all innovative ideas and effective solutions in the fields of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and preserving the environment, in parallel with the “vision.” Egypt 2030”, and in line with the international conventions approved bythe United Nations, the most important of which were the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through its long journey of achievements related to the environment and development, “Humat Al-Earth” was able to provide on the land of Egypt a climate that pushes the wheel of development towards a future in which there is no place except for hard work. Therefore, the magazine decided to launch – under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity – the “Earth Guards Shield” competition, which in its first ceremony honored institutions that were able to achieve the equation that “Earth Guards” magazine sought in all its work, which is compatibility between the environment and investment, while achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) locally and regionally.

One of these pioneering institutions in the field of applying sustainability standards and environmental preservation measures – Vodafone was the institution that, over the past years, was keen to reduce its carbon footprint and emissions resulting from all its activities. Vodafone’s approach to this sustainable path is only a step towards a larger goal, which is to rely on 100% renewable energy by 2025, and reach Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030. In order to achieve this goal, Vodafone has moved towards recycling 100% of its waste, using the Etadweer application.

Vodafone did not stop there, but rather achieved a greater role towards the environment and preserving its resources through smart agriculture methods, which help increase production, improve the use of resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For all of this – in addition to its development activities in the health and education sectors – Vodafone well deserved the “Earth Guards Shield”, which is a major step in this promising field – the field of environmental action – and which reflects the aspirations of “COP27”, when Egypt established the rules for climate action and urged the world to implement the recommendations proposed regarding environmental action and its goals at this global conference in which It was held last year in Sharm El Sheikh. These recommendations include: reducing harmful environmental impacts, adapting to them, and mobilizing fair and adequate funding for environmental projects.

This competition was sponsored byMinistry of Social Solidarity, and its Minister, who spares no effort in supporting the environment and its field – Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj – where the Ministry and the magazine together launched this competition with objective evaluations and standards; So that it is a step towards strengthening “Egypt Vision 2030”.

The first ceremony came as an opportunity to support community work in the field of the environment and the preservation of its resources, and this was in the presence ofMinister of Social Solidarity -Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj-and First Undersecretary of the House of Representatives -Counsel Ahmed Saad El-Din – and a number of members of the House of Representatives and presidents Its subcommittees, in addition to the stars and women of society, as well as media and art icons.

In this context, the shield was received by Ms. Mai Yassin, “Secretary General of Community Development and Head of the Sustainability Business Department at Vodafone.” Her speech was filled with happiness for this honorable honour. There, Mai Yassin conveyed Vodafone’s vision for this honor with the “Earth Guards Shield”, as it is a high-level honor that looks at Vodafone’s work objectively and motivates people to make more achievements in achieving goals. Developmental and environmental.
