Jahar announces the accreditation and renewal of accreditation of 31 health facilities across the country to support health care

Developing the health sector and raising the standards ofhealth careare among the basic pillars of achieving good health and enhancing the quality of life for citizens. It also represents one of the important indicators that reflects the extent of progress of countries and their ability to provide safe and effective health services that meet the needs of citizens. In light of the increasing global interest in building more efficient and sustainable health systems, the quality of health services has become a pivotal element in development plans in various countries of the world.

Therefore, countries are keen to adopt and apply internationally recognized quality and accreditation standards within their health facilities, as a key tool to ensure improved performance, raise the efficiency of services, and enhance patient safety.

31 health facilities joined the national quality system

From this standpoint, Egypt continues its efforts to establish a culture of quality within the health sector, as the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, headed by Dr. Ahmed Taha, announced the issuance of a new package of decisions by the Supreme Committee for Accreditation of Health Facilities.

The decisions resulted in granting and renewing accreditation to (31) health facilities in various parts of the Republic, after their success in meeting the requirements of the quality standards issued by the Authority and internationally recognized by the International Society for Healthcare Quality (ISQua).

Spreading a culture of quality and institutional excellence

These decisions reflect the continued expansion of spreading the culture of quality and institutional excellence within the Egyptian health sector, and consolidating the position of accreditation as one of the most important tools for developing health care, which contributes to enhancing patient safety, raising performance efficiency, and improving the experience of health service recipients.

It also confirms the widening scope of application of internationally approved quality standards across various levels of health service provision, which reflects the growing commitment of health institutions to paths of continuous development and improving the efficiency of services provided to citizens.

In this context, the decisions of the Higher Accreditation Committee included a number of hospitals and health facilities in various governorates, which succeeded in meeting or renewing accreditation requirements in accordance with the standards of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control.

Granting full accreditation and renewing initial accreditation

In the hospital sector, the Supreme Committee agreed to grant a full accreditation certificate in accordance with GAHAR standards to:

  • Suez Canal Authority Hospital (No. 6) in Ismailia Governorate.
  • Dar Al Shifa Hospital in Cairo Governorate.

The committee also agreed to renew the initial accreditation of “Dermwas Specialized Hospital” in Minya Governorate, and to renew the full accreditation of:

  • Police Hospital in Alexandria, affiliated with the Medical Services Sector of the Ministry of Interior
  • Al-Arabi Hospital in Menoufia Governorate

In addition to granting the initial accreditation certificate to:

  • Dar El Salam Hermel Hospital, Cairo Governorate
  • Al-Qantara East Central Hospital in Ismailia Governorate, affiliated with the Health Care Authority

Primary health care sector

In the primary health care sector, the committee agreed to grant the initial accreditation certificate in accordance with the internationally approved (GAHAR) standards for (6) family medicine units and centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, which included:

  • Misr Residential Family Medicine Center (Badr) in Cairo Governorate
  • Family Medicine Unit in the Sixth District, Cairo Governorate
  • Abu Dashisha Family Medicine Unit in Dakahlia Governorate
  • Old Barumbal Family Medical Center in Dakahlia Governorate
  • Mit Adlan Family Medicine Unit in Dakahlia Governorate
  • Gharbani Family Medicine Unit in Alexandria Governorate

The committee also agreed to renew the accreditation of four primary care facilities in Ismailia Governorate, reflecting their success in maintaining quality requirements and sustaining their application, which are:

  • Guardty Family Medicine Unit
  • Future Family Medicine Center
  • Al-Wasifiyah Family Medicine Center
  • Al Salam District Family Medicine Center

In a new achievement for the primary health care sector, three family medicine units and centers obtained the full accreditation certificate, after meeting all the accreditation requirements and standards approved by the Authority, which are:

  • Kabrit Family Medicine Unit in Suez Governorate
  • Al-Mahamid Family Medicine Center in Aswan Governorate
  • Ragama Family Medicine Unit, West, Aswan Governorate

Growing awareness of the importance of quality

In this context, Dr. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, confirmed that accreditation according to “Jahar” standards has become an established institutional culture that extends to various governorates of the Republic, indicating that the increasing demand for obtaining and renewing accreditation reflects growing awareness of the importance of quality as one of the most important drivers of development and excellence in the health sector.

He added that the renewal of accreditation represents practical evidence of the maturity of quality systems within health facilities and their ability to maintain outstanding levels of performance in a sustainable manner, stressing that the impact of applying quality standards extends beyond patient safety, to include developing the work environment, supporting health personnel, raising operating efficiency, and enhancing institutional and environmental sustainability.

He also congratulated all the facilities that succeeded in obtaining or renewing accreditation, appreciating the efforts of their work teams in establishing a culture of quality and transforming it into tangible daily practices. He also called on health care facilities that have not yet begun the accreditation journey to take the initiative to embark on this experience, stressing that “Jahar” accreditation has become a real investment in trust and institutional excellence, and that quality is the best path towards a more efficient and sustainable health future for the citizen. In conclusion, with the expansion of the scope of facilities accredited according to “Jahar” standards to include hospitals, primary care centers, and specialized health facilities in various governorates, the health system’s ability to provide more efficient and sustainable services will be enhanced, thus supporting the state’s efforts to build a modern health system that puts the quality of service and patient safety at the top of its priorities.
