The National Institute for Governance enhances sustainable development skills among Suez University students

As the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, theNational Institute for Governanceand Sustainable Development held a lecture entitled: “Governance forSustainable Development”, attended by 100 people. A student from the Faculty of Politics and Economics – Suez University.

Dr. Sherifa Sharif, “Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development,” indicated the Institute’s interest in providing consultations, research, and training programs that seek to spread a culture of sustainability, while activating governance mechanisms in all sectors of the country. Explaining how holding such seminars and lectures is important for the topic of “Governance for Sustainable Development.” This is to enhance good governance practices, in order to implement “Egypt Vision 2030”, and thus achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sherif – Director of the National Institute for Governance – stated that the lecture came under the auspices of Professor Dr. El-Sayed Abdel-Azim El-Sharkawy, “President of Suez University.” Many topics were discussed, including talking about the role of the Institute and its various activities, especially those related to the field of training and developing youth skills and raising their capabilities, governance and its importance in sustainable development, human rights, and the nature of corruption, its types and causes. In addition to reviewing the many initiatives launched by the Institute, including: Climate Ambassadors, Green Minds, Be an Ambassador, and Sustainable Art.

And about the “Be an Ambassador for Sustainable Development” initiative, which was launched by the “Ministry of Planning and Economic Development” and implemented by the Institute in 2020; Dr. Sharifa Sharif – Director of the National Institute for Governance – indicated that it is an initiative aimed at building and developing skills in the field of sustainable development, through an intensive training program that lasted for 4 months, in addition to training of trainers (TOT). She stressed that it is an initiative that focuses on the development of modern environmental thought and the concept of just and comprehensive sustainable development, as well as introducing the importance of commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), smart cities, the circular economy, and green economy concepts.

During the lecture, “Director of the Career Path Unit at the Institute” – Dr. Dina Talaat – explained that the “Be an Ambassador” initiative uses multiple training tools, including special instruction manuals, that include technical topics, concepts and terminology related to sustainability, noting that it is an initiative based on interactive and experiential learning, which is an educational method that relies on simulation and motivational tools.

In the same context, Engy Ali – “Deputy Director of the Career Path Unit”, who is responsible for managing the “Be an Ambassador” initiative, reviewed the three levels of the initiative; The first: introductory level, the second: specialized, and the third: professional. She indicated that it is an initiative targeting students and graduates in the age group between 18 and 35 years, and that the number of graduates of the first batch in the initiative reached 800 trainees, then the number of graduates of the second batch reached 1,335 trainees.

The lecture was held with the participation of Ms. Iman Ragheb, “Coordinator in the Career Path Unit,” as well as Coordinator in the “Be an Ambassador Initiative.”
