Enhancing ways of cooperation between Egypt and the United States
In this context, Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, held an expanded meeting with the delegation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, headed by Mr. Omar Muhanna, Chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United States of America, within the framework of the ongoing arrangements for the Chamber’s delegation’s visit to Washington as part of the door-knocking mission organized by the Chamber periodically. The meeting was attended by a number of leaders of the Ministry of Industry.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister stressed the strength of the relations between Egypt and the United States of America, which are based on a long history of joint cooperation in various fields, stressing the importance of the US Department of Commerce reconsidering the temporary duties recently imposed on Egyptian rebar imports to the American market in a way that contributes to enhancing Egypt’s iron exports to the United States of America.
He also stressed the Egyptian government’s keenness to deepen the frameworks of industrial and commercial cooperation between Egypt and the United States of America during the next stage in several goods and products, and to attract more American investments to the Egyptian market, noting that discussions are continuing between officials of the two countries to push bilateral economic relations to new horizons in a way that achieves the common interest of both sides.
Investing in data centers and renewable energy
In the same context, the minister said that American companies have a distinct opportunity to invest in Egypt currently in the field of establishing data centers to serve the local market and neighboring markets, as these centers will bring in many other industries, especially industries based onArtificial Intelligenceto serve the industrial sector.
He pointed out the possibility of American companies participating in implementing renewable energy plants and installing and operating energy systems in industrial areas, within the framework of enhancing industrial cooperation between the two sides, which is directly related to the seventh and seventeenth goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are concerned with ensuring everyone’s access to clean energy at reasonable prices and establishing partnerships to achieve the goals.

Enhancing the role of the private sector and developing the industrial strategy
The Minister explained that the Ministry of Industry considers the private sector a key partner in achieving the state’s goals for industrial development, which prompts the Ministry to consult with the private sector in any decisions affecting the industrial community, pointing out that the Ministry is currently reviewing the national strategy for developing Egyptian industry to come up with an integrated strategy that meets the ambitions of the industrial sector and takes into account current regional and global changes.
This is done by identifying a number of strategic industries; To focus on it during the current stage to restore Egypt’s position on the global industrial map, as the Ministry’s role will be to market these industries to major international companies to attract them and pump investments into these sectors in Egypt. Sustainable financing mechanisms to support productive villages
The minister added that the ministry also adopts the concept of productive villages based on the comparative advantages in each governorate by providing small workshops and industrial complexes and soft financing for small investors, in addition to providing technical support to connect these small workshops with medium and small factories to achieve integration in supply chains through the industrial map that will determine the comparative advantage of each village.
The Minister noted that a new financing mechanism has been updated, through the launch of industrial investment funds to which citizens contribute, with the aim of enhancing the financial sector’s ability to direct financing directly towards promising industrial projects, indicating that the first of these funds is expected to enter into operation in the last quarter of this year.
The Minister confirmed that an agreement had been reached with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on a new working mechanism to link the outputs of scientific research with industry requirements, through the establishment of a Technology Park, with the aim of supporting innovation and transforming the outputs of scientific research into manufacturable products, and linking academic institutions with the industrial sector, pointing out that the Ministry is currently working to activate the role of the Industry Modernization Center to provide technical and technological support.
