The second session of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects opens the door to progress

Yesterday, the “Ministry of Planning and Economic Development” announced the availability of applications for the second session of the “National Initiative for Smart Green Projects”, and this is through the initiative’s websitewww.sgg.eg, as the door to application will remain open until the end of next May among all governorates of the Republic.

Regarding this announcement, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said: “The initiative is sponsored by the President of the Republic.” She referred to the Prime Minister’s Decision No. (2738) of 2022 regarding launching the initiative; In implementation of the Egyptian vision in the field of sustainable development, and a reflection of the state’s efforts to localize development goals among all of Egypt’s governorates. Al-Saeed confirmed that it is a unique initiative of its kind globally, in which Egypt focuses on realistic implementation and implementation. In order to deal effectively with environmental dimensions within the framework of sustainable development and its goals, as well as for digital transformation through those projects that aim to achieveSustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 Ambassador Hisham Badr, “the general coordinator of the initiative,” indicated that it is an initiative that reflects Egypt’s interest in climate change locally and globally, and through it the Egyptian state seeks to empower women, youth, and the private sector, and that all of this is in light of national efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development and digital transformation, as well as in light of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050. The ambassador also explained that the goal of the initiative is to create a state of societal and motivational movement, to confirm The importance of smart and green projects in all areas of life.

The “General Coordinator of the Initiative” did not forget to praise the role of the governorates in encouraging all sectors and groups to participate effectively in the initiative. Pointing to the beginning of the announcement by the governorates of the Republic about the launch of the second session, with a statement of the standards required in the submitted projects.

Badr alluded to the fruits of the success of the first round of the initiative through coordination between ministries and various entities from all sectors, as a number of gains were achieved, the most important of which is the establishment of the first database for smart green projects at the governorate level. More than 6,000 projects were submitted to this initiative, and the winning projects were then presented at the COP27 climate conference, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh last November. The governorates of the Republic also sought, through this first initiative, to raise climate awareness, by choosing the “Governorate Ambassador” project.
