The Standards and Quality Authority adopts new standards to support sustainable development
Within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to localize industry in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and to achieve the goals of sustainable development, and based on the fact that the localization of industries movement requires the issuance of standard quality specifications that support the competitiveness of products in global markets, Dr. Khaled Sofi, Chairman of the Egyptian General Authority for Standardization and Quality, reviewed the efforts made to raise the level of every product and service provided to the Egyptian citizen, in addition to supporting the Egyptian industry to compete in international markets, as it is the national house of expertise in the field of standardization, quality, and guarantee. The real thing.
This came during the visit of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, accompanied by Lt. The Authority performs its role by preparing and issuing Egyptian standard specifications that cover all industrial and service sectors in the fields of engineering, chemicals, food, textiles, and industrial standards. The Authority has so far issued more than 9 thousand Egyptian standard specifications that are considered a basic reference for every local or imported product.
In addition to a system of internationally accredited laboratories that play their role in analysis and testing to ensure that products conform to specifications and grant certificates of conformity and the Egyptian quality mark, which contributes to consumer protection, supports the Egyptian product and enhances its ability to compete in global markets, which in turn positively affects the Egyptian economy as a whole by localizing the manufacture of many products that conform to international quality specifications, and reducing dependence on imports from abroad.
Training on quality management systems and institutional evaluation
Within the framework of supporting the human element, the Authority is also working to spread the culture of quality within state institutions and the private sector. It has trained more than 15,000 trainees on quality management systems, institutional evaluation, and performance improvement, to prepare human cadres who possess the skills of quality standardization and performance improvement and have the ability to apply them scientifically and practically.
The Authority’s role in achieving sustainable development
In the context of comprehensive sustainable development, the Authority, headed by Dr. Khaled Sofi, is working to achieve its goals by preparing specifications for environmental performance, reviewing carbon footprint reports for a number of major companies in Egypt, and verifying and certifying them in accordance with the international accreditation obtained by the Authority. The Authority also issues energy efficiency cards and green paints within the framework of the state’s drive for green transformation.

Environmental Scorecard…a new specification
In statements by Dr. Ikram Saeed, Head of the Environmental Performance Unit at the Egyptian General Organization for Standardization and Quality, she announced the issuance of a new mandatory specification under the name “Environmental Performance Card” for the paints sector. The new specification requires all factories to issue a card that specifies environmental standards for paints, such as the proportions offormaldehyde and volatile organic compounds, as well as the limits of lead in Products.
Paint companies rushed to implement the new standard and obtain the green mark for their products, especially since the new national projects require the introduction of products holding this mark in order to approve their products in line with the global trend towards environmentally friendly products.
The Authority’s efforts also include issuing environmental performance cards for other sectors such as fertilizers, detergents, sanitary paper and tissues, according to its statements, and it indicated the issuance of a new card for the automobile sector to ensure the efficiency of engines, which the Authority will announce soon.

Egypt is at the top of the global quality system
It is worth noting that Egypt is now at the top of the global quality system with the election of Dr. Khaled Sofi as President of the International Organization for Standardization “ISO” for a period of 3 years from 2026 to 2028, and his registration as the first Egyptian Arab president in the history of the organization since its founding in 1947, which reflects the world’s confidence in Egypt’s ability to lead the quality and standardization file at the international level and transfer the necessary experience to support industry and sustainable development to all countries of the region.
Relying on environmentally friendly green products is a global trend because the stages of their manufacturing, distribution, use and disposal are in ways that do not negatively affect the environment, which helps preserve natural resources, reduce harmful waste and reduce the carbon footprint. It is also characterized by the fact that it is made from biodegradable plant materials in addition to consuming less energy, and is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that continueHama Foundation The Earth achieving it and spreading awareness of its issues.
