Professions and Employment Horizons is a platform for promoting decent work opportunities

Many countries are seeking new development models that balance human needs and environmental protection, as it is no longer possible to ignore the global challenges that are constantly escalating, such as climate change, worsening poverty, and high unemployment rates, in addition to accelerating technological transformations. All of these challenges pushed countries to adopt new paths that ensure sustainable development and fair distribution of opportunities.

Egypt has adopted this approach through its ambitious national vision, “Egypt Vision 2030,” which focuses on creating comprehensive and sustainable development, as the state works to achieve these goals through digital transformation, developing information infrastructure, strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors, and supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.

In this context, the “Egypt Occupational Outlook” platform was launched as one of the innovative digital tools to support the Egyptian labor market, by providing accurate and updated data on more than 400 professions, in accordance with the Egyptian Unified Occupational Classification Guide.

In this article,Earth Guards reviews in detail the features of the “Professions and Employment Horizons” platform, and how it supports the transition towards a more sustainable economy, and contributes to providing decent job opportunities that take into account green development standards. We also discuss the most prominent data and sources on which the platform was built, and its expected impact on youth, decision-makers, and the Egyptian labor market in general.

The platform comes within the framework of the “Employment Support” Project (EPP) implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, and the Labor Market Policies Unit of the Ministry of Planning. In a clear model for integrating local and international efforts towards developing human capabilities.

What does the platform offer?

The “Professions and Employment Horizons” is an integrated window that provides services and analyzes covering various segments of society, from students, graduates and job seekers, to decision makers and those responsible for strategic planning. Through a smooth interactive interface, the platform allows exploring more than 400 professions with detailed analysis that includes the main tasks, the expected employment growth rate until 2030, the geographical distribution of workers, average wages, education requirements, and the extent of the profession’s contribution to the green economy.

The platform is not limited to displaying information, but rather allows the user to rank professions according to specific criteria such as the highest wage, the fastest growing in terms of the number of workers, the most jobs expected to be available in the future, or the ones closest to the green transition. This classification is a powerful tool for making professional decisions based on an accurate understanding of market needs, especially in light of the rapid transformations in the business world.

The platform relies for its information on multiple and accurate data sources, foremost of which is the labor force survey issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, in addition to value-added data for sectors of economic activity from the Ministry of Planning, and the (O*Net) database that helps determine the skills and knowledge required for each profession. This methodology ensures accuracy and continuous updating of data, which makes the platform a reliable reference in planning career paths.

How does the platform support the green transition?

This project is gaining increasing importance in light of the global trend towards the green economy, which has become an essential element in countries’ plans for sustainable economic growth. Employment in the future is no longer limited to traditional skills, but has become linked to the ability to adapt to new environmental requirements.

In light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the platform plays a tangible role in supporting Goal (8) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), “Decent Work and Economic Growth,” by enabling groups of youth and women to access information that helps them make more informed professional decisions and enhances their opportunities in the labor market.

The role of the platform is not limited to empowering individuals, but rather it extends to providing advanced qualitative indicators, the most prominent of which is the index of the extent to which jobs are linked to the transition towards a green economy, which represents an important analytical tool that contributes to assessing the environmental impact of various jobs, and directing policies towards sustainable employment opportunities that are consistent with the country’s directions and comprehensive development goals.

In light of the rapid changes taking place in the Egyptian labor market, the platform supports innovation and entrepreneurship, and helps investors choose the fastest growing areas of investment, by highlighting emerging sectors and related opportunities, which contributes to building a dynamic work environment that is consistent with the requirements of digital transformation and meets the needs of the Egyptian economy.

The platform also allows decision makers to benefit from accurate and reliable data about current and future labor market needs. This information contributes to formulating educational and operational policies that are compatible with continuous changes, which ensures that educational outcomes are aligned with development requirements.

Earth Guards believes that the “Professions and Employment Horizons” platform reflects the Egyptian state’s commitment to implementing an integrated development vision based on the principles of sustainability, and contributes to achieving its goals and turning them into a practical reality. The platform – with its digital and strategic dimension – represents a fundamental pillar in building a flexible and fair economy that takes into account the environmental dimension, and enables Egypt to move steadily towards a more sustainable future.
