The Grand Egyptian Museum takes into account the principles of sustainable development and the concepts of green transformation, and this is reflected in its energy-saving lighting systems and environmentally friendly water installations, as well as its heat-reflecting roof, which achieves the highest rates of thermal insulation, in addition to the use of smart meters to measureenergy consumption.
Hence – in implementation of this Egyptian development approach – the Egyptian Museum was able to provide energy equivalent to removing more than 400 gasoline-powered cars from the streets of Cairo for an entire year, and provide water equivalent to 63.4 million liters of water from the Nile River annually. This international certificate reflects Egypt’s commitment to achieving sustainability standards, asGreen constructionmeans efficiency in the use of resources; Therefore, we can live in a low-carbon present and future, in a way that preserves the environment and its resources for us and for future generations, and these goals are the most important axes of “Egypt Vision 2030.”
Green transformation opportunities
The Egyptian Museum’s obtaining the “Advanced EDGE” certificate is an opportunity for greater cooperation between national governments and international institutions concerned with green transformation in buildings at the local level, which helps achieve the goals of strategies for sustainable development. This achievement was the result of joint efforts betweenInternational Finance Corporationand the National Center for Housing and Building Research.
The certificate obtained by the Grand Egyptian Museum from the International Finance Corporation is only an image of this institution’s contributions to supporting green building concepts, as it supports the Egyptian private sector with financial technology, financing climate action, manufacturing industries, infrastructure projects, renewable energy, health care,gender equality, and other axes related to sustainable development and achieving… Its objectives.

As for the standards for the “EDGE Advanced” certification, they are achieving 20% of the minimum green standards. However, the Egyptian Museum has achieved an unprecedented achievement with a conservation rate of 62% in the field of energy, a conservation rate of 34% in the field of water consumption, and a rationalization rate of 59% in reducingEmissions Carbon dioxide resulting from building materials.
It is worth noting that the Egyptian Museum is distinguished in terms of this type of green transformation and the application ofclean environment standards. It has previously obtained 8 ISO certificates in the field of energy, health, occupational safety, environment and quality. It also received the Green Building Award and other sustainability and environmental awards presented by international institutions.
