A new international achievement.. Egypt wins an ICAO Council seat in support of the air transport industry
Through the efforts of the ICAO Council - and other international councils - the global aviation sector has a catalytic role in efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is done by building strategies aimed at building institutional capabilities, developing infrastructure, and harmonizing aviation policies with international rules. In order for aviation in all countries of the world to be safer, more efficient and sustainable.
This trend clearly reflects how aviation is turning into a lever for economic integration, a necessary path to enhance communication between peoples, and a basic pillar for achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In light of these global transformations, Egypt won a seat on the ICAO Council in a historic moment that reshapes the features of global civil aviation, especially within the continent of Africa.

Regarding this new Egyptian achievement in the aviation sector, theThe Earth Guards Foundation sheds light in the following lines on the positive impact of this achievement on Egypt’s efforts to transform the aviation sector towards comprehensive sustainability. So keep reading.
Trust of the international community
The ICAO (ECAW) is the International Civil Aviation Organization, an agency of the United Nations, concerned with establishing international standards and agreements; In order to regulate civil aviation and ensure its safety and efficiency. Through these global goals, ICAO works to support Member States in promoting sustainable growth of the aviation sector worldwide.

Based on this importance, Egypt’s victory in the second category came in the elections that took place within the work of the forty-second session of the ICAO General Assembly meeting in the Canadian city of Montreal. This represents the culmination of a long process of modernization and development in the Egyptian aviation sector, and a practical translation of the state’s vision of combining economic growth with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ICAO for Sustainability
Also, Egypt’s victory in an advanced position in the ICAO Council came compared to all previous sessions, confirming the confidence of the international community in its leadership position and its pivotal role in shaping the future of the global air transport industry, and in complete harmony with Goal No. (9) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to industry, innovation and infrastructure.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation explained - in more detail - that this achievement represents the culmination of integrated strategic efforts, which included modernizing aviation infrastructure, developing air navigation systems, and training human cadres on the latest international standards, which reflects Egypt’s commitment to Goal No. (4) of quality education and capacity building, as well as Goal No. (13) of climate action.
Egyptian Civil Aviation Efforts
Regarding this global Egyptian achievement, Dr. Sameh El-Hafny - Minister of Civil Aviation - expressed his pride in this unique achievement, stressing that Egypt’s victory in membership in the ICAO Council represents international recognition of the pioneering role that Cairo plays in supporting the air transport industry globally.

The Minister of Civil Aviation stressed that this success would not have been achieved without national support at all levels of the state, which made modernizing the civil aviation sector a strategic priority within “Egypt Vision 2030,” adding that Egypt will continue to launch initiatives that support the sustainability of air transport and serving developing countries, in a way that enhances international trade and stimulates global tourism.
Africa unites positions
On the sidelines of the ICAO Council meeting, the city of Montreal witnessed the largest African gathering organized by the African Civil Aviation Organization (AFCAC), with the participation of aviation and transport ministers from 51 African countries and more than 16 Arab countries, along with senior officials from ICAO and regional organizations.
During the meeting, the African ministers stressed the importance of joint coordination to enhance the continent’s presence in the global aviation industry, and the necessity of unifying African votes during the upcoming elections, as it is a turning point that reflects the continent’s ambitions and its growing role in shaping the future of international air transport.
In his speech, Dr. Sameh Al-Hafni - Minister of Civil Aviation - stressed that representing Africa within the ICAO Council is a collective responsibility that places the continent at the heart of the international aviation industry, stressing that Africa is a rising continent that possesses enormous human and economic potential and a promising youth segment. This qualifies it to be a pivotal partner in the future of global civil aviation.

A more sustainable strategic future
Egypt’s win of an ICAO Council seat can only be read as a strong indication of Egypt’s ability to adapt to major transformations in the global aviation industry, which are no longer measured only by the size of aircraft fleets or the number of airports, but rather by the extent of commitment to innovation and sustainability standards.
This achievement places a double responsibility on Egypt, which is to remain an influential regional player, and to transform its expertise in modernizing the air system into a model to be emulated in the Arab and African countries. This makes the Egyptian civil aviation sector a means of geographical and commercial connectivity, and a strategic platform for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their social, economic and environmental dimensions.
