Thanks to digital tools and smart technologies, societies now have unprecedented capabilities to enhance individuals’ participation in economic and social activity, making technology a pivotal element in shaping the features of contemporary human development and its future path.
As this role of technology in supporting human development paths expands, the disparity in the ability of societies to access and benefit from these tools emerges as a decisive factor in determining who reaps the benefits of progress and who remains outside its circle, which opens the door to a deeper discussion about the digital divide as one of the most prominent challenges hindering human development globally.

Despite the opportunities offered by technological progress, global experience reveals a sharp discrepancy in the ability to benefit from these tools.
