The Minister of Local Development explains the African importance of the “Decent Life” program at the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly
Major General Hisham Amna, “Minister of Local Development,” had an active presence at the “Second Session of the Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements ProgramUN-HABITAT, where he stated the government’s keenness to transfer Egyptian experiences regarding the presidential initiative “A Decent Life”; In order to disseminate this pioneering development model among all African countries, especially after international parties praised this initiative, which seeks to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One of the results of this participation is the availability of a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of this conference – a conference held between June 5 and 9 in Kenya – between the Egyptian Minister of Local Development and his Zambian counterpart. In this ministerial meeting, the two ministers reviewed the bilateral agreements between Egypt and Zambia, and there they confirmed the keenness related to transferring Egyptian expertise to all parts of the African continent. This is in light of President Sisi’s visit to Zambia, considered a historic visit, in which he discussed with the President of the State of Zambia the procedures for handing over the presidency of the “COMESA” group to the Zambian government. Amna also expressed his interest in receiving Zambian cadres. To train them on local management skills.
This was not the only bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the second session of the Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. Major General Hisham Amna held other meetings, including his meeting with the “Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Human Settlements Programme,” Maimuna Mohamed Sharif, where they reviewed together the latest developments related to hosting the “World Urban Forum” in 2024. In Cairo.
The Egyptian Minister also participated in more than one of the conference’s sessions, such as the session “The Impact of Climate Change on Displacement and Illegal Migration,” and the session “Localizing the New Urban Agenda and Climate Change,” where Amna confirmed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives focused on providing support that would help Egyptian officials host the World Urban Forum in an appropriate manner, especially after Egypt succeeded in hosting “COP27” in Sharm El Sheikh last year.

As part of the activities of this conference, Major General Hisham Amna met with a number of local development ministers, the most prominent of whom was: the Malaysian Minister of Local Development, who discussed with Amna the cooperation strategies between the two countries, especially cooperation in the field of training local development cadres, as the two ministers expressed their willingness to sign a joint memorandum of understanding that includes bilateral cooperation relations in all fields.
Hence, Major General Hisham Amna explained that Egyptian-Malaysian cooperation has historical relations, especially in the development fields witnessed by the two countries, in addition to the field of small and medium industries, and some other fields related to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
