How are leading companies in Japan working to reach net zero emissions?

Panasonic launches the “Green Impact” vision to achieve the 2050 goal

It is no secret thatJapan is one of the leading countries in the electronics industry. Which means - necessarily - that it is an industry that constitutes a large percentage of the economy of this Asian country, in addition to being responsible for a significant percentage of industrial emissions in a country that is famous around the world for its giant manufacturing capabilities.

Realizing the seriousness of the climate situation in the world, Japan launched an ambitious goal: achieving net zero emissions by 2050, a goal that all leading Japanese companies will work to participate in achieving, especially those operating in the electronics industry sector, led by Panasonic.

In this context, Panasonic launched its vision under the name “Panasonic Green Impact” or - for short - PGI, a vision that we will learn about in some detail in the following lines.

Motivation behind Panasonic’s vision

Planet Earth - as we know - lives in a time of warming, which it has not witnessed for many centuries, a phenomenon to which human activities have contributed - mainly - to its exacerbation. Hence, Japan realized its responsibility to reduce its emissions to minimum levels. This is to contribute to global efforts aimed at reducing the phenomenon of climate change, as it launched a national goal: reaching net zero emissions by 2050, an initiative that Panasonic interacted with, as it is one of the leading Japanese companies locally and globally.

Therefore, Panasonic announced a plan that includes a set of time-bound goals, by which it will ensure that its carbon emissions are reduced by 300 million tons by the year 2050. To put the previous number into account, in the year 2021 the company produced 110 million tons of emissions, while avoiding the production of another 23.5 million tons.

Panasonic also determined that it will reduce its emissions by 16.4 million tons at the end of next year, as well as avoid emitting another 14.8 million tons. By 2050 - the year in which Japan is expected to achieve net-zero emissions - Panasonic will have contributed to this ambitious goal, by reducing its carbon emissions by 100 million tons, in addition to avoiding the release of another 200 million tons.

But how is this?

The numbers we reviewed in the previous lines may raise some questions about: How can Panasonic reduce this huge amount of carbon emissions? The answer lies in advanced manufacturing techniques, in addition to relying on renewable and clean energy sources in production processes, not only within its facilities in Japan, but around the whole world.

In addition, Panasonic will make its products more sustainable and environmentally friendly, by increasing their operating efficiency. To be energy efficient, in addition to integrating these products into theCircular Economy ring; To avoid generating huge amounts of electronic waste, something that Panasonic will contribute - indirectly - to reducing the environmental footprint of many consumers around the world.

These sustainable steps by Panasonic - and other leading Japanese companies - will help achieve the Japanese national goal, which is the direction that all countries of the world should adopt. To reduce the climate dangers that lurk all forms of life on planet Earth.
