Ahmed Aboul Gheit inaugurates the first edition of the Arab Sustainability Day
Secretary General ofLeague of Arab States “Aboul Gheit” yesterday opened the first edition ofArab Sustainability Day, which comes under the slogan “Pioneers of Sustainability in the Arab region”. The opening was attended by Dr.Hala Al-Saeed"Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and a large number of figures from various international organizations, as this opening is considered a media drive to create an ideal, correct image with the concepts of sustainability and learn about the achievements of Arab countries in this field.

In a related context, Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, said: Aboul Gheit stressed - through his speech - thatSustainable development, in all its economic, social and environmental dimensions, represents a governing framework for preparing policies aimed at preserving the environment and protecting it from any deterioration, while at the same time working to make societies flourish.
In the same context, the speaker explained that the Arab League, with its specialized bodies, is making every effort to achieveArab developmentin its comprehensive and integrated concept; Accordingly, the sustainability dimension has been included in the university’s activities since the beginning of international interest and attention to climate issues and resource sustainability, including food security, water, and the eradication of hunger and poverty.

On the other hand, Aboul Gheit highlighted the humanitarian disasters and serious conflicts that some Arab countries are going through, stressing that it is necessary to provide relief through urgent action and intensifying efforts in this regard. This is so that new and innovative ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are considered. Moreover, the Arab League recently launched a comprehensive report entitled “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Countries Affected by Conflicts.” In collaboration with a number of partners.
The event witnessed a tribute to a number of important figures; For their effective contribution and implementation of important and beneficial development initiatives that are strongly interconnected with the range of priorities of Arab countries and their efforts to advance development work.
