Therefore, it was necessary for the pioneers of this strategic industry to adopt new policies and contemporary visions to gradually transform this industry towards a better future.
CEMEX Egypt (owner of Assiut Cement Factory and CEMEX Ready Mix Concrete), which represents an extension of CEMEX International Company, has taken many important steps in the field of environment and sustainable development over recent years, and has had many bright glimpses in this field, so it is worthy of our attention. To shed light on it, in appreciation of us as protectors of the Earth.
Alternative fuels and emissions reduction
CEMEX adopts a strategy called “The Future Starts Now” that aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40% by 2030, and providecompletely carbon dioxide-free concreteby 2050.
Within the framework of this strategy, the company adopted a policy of using alternative fuels in its various production operations, and reducing dependence on traditional fossil fuels, as it owns two alternative fuel factories in Assiut and Qena, to be used later in its production operations, in addition to owning An advanced internal system for sorting and managing waste.
Perhaps one of the company’s most prominent technical achievements in the field of environment and sustainability is that it is the first company in Egypt to put environmentally friendly pozzolanic cement on the market starting in 2018. It is worth noting that pozzolanic cement is a type of cement characterized by strong mechanical properties. At the same time, its manufacturing results in lower carbon emissions.
Support and organize initiatives and campaigns
CEMEX’s efforts were not limited to developing its industrial sector to be more environmentally friendly, but also included supporting a number of initiatives and launching many campaigns, in confirmation of its full awareness and contribution to preserving the environment and improving the climate, as the company signed a cooperation protocol with the “Very Nile” initiative. To clean the Nile River of waste and support the circular economy, in addition to participating in the “Nile Youth” volunteer campaign in Assiut to clean the Nile shore, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment.
With the aim of reducing the impact of carbon dioxide emissions, the gas that mainly causes global warming, CEMEX, in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture at Assiut University, designed and implemented the first botanical garden in the governorate, which contains a rich collection of different plants, and is open to visitors. More than two years ago, the company planted fruit trees such as lemon, guava, mango, and orange in various orphanages and elderly care homes in Assiut Governorate, out of its keenness to contribute to raising the morale of the residents of these homes by benefiting from To reap the fruits of these trees, CEMEX has nurtured and cared for these trees to ensure sustainability and achieve the desired goal.
