How does Manal Hassan lead Elsewedy Electric Group’s sustainability efforts?

We will be upon us in a few days “International Women’s Day”, this occasion, which falls on the eighth of March every year, is celebrated by the United Nations and UNICEF, in addition to a large number of institutions and countries around the world, in order to highlight the effective role of women in sustainable development, and to support the empowerment of women and the promotion of their rights and protection in a way that ensures the fulfillment of the aspirations and hopes of both parts of the world. Society.

In this year’s celebration,Earth Guards participates by highlighting a group of the most prominent Egyptian female models, who were able to go beyond the limits of societal expectations, to achieve many achievements on the scientific and practical levels. Therefore, we continue with you in these days – ahead of International Women’s Day – in identifying these honorable models, in an effort by the magazine. In inspiring all women, supporting their empowerment, and highlighting their role in achieving sustainable development, and the heroine of this article is “Manal Hassan”.

Manal Hassan has more than 30 years of experience in various sectors, and in 2017, she joined theElsewedy Electric Group as Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility. She also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Elsewedy Electric Foundation.

Manal Hassan was responsible for setting the group-wide Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) practices strategy in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and Egypt’s Vision 2030. As a result, Elsewedy Electric was considered the first Egyptian company to begin its ESG reporting journey, and was also the first company in the Middle East and Africa to obtain ISO 14067 certification on its carbon footprint.

Before working at Elsewedy Electric, Manal Hassan served as CEO of the AAIB Foundation for the Arab African International Bank. She also worked at the German Foundation for International Cooperation (GIZ), where she led a team to monitor and evaluate the Foundation’s development projects in Egypt. In addition, Manal is a board member of several for-profit and non-profit organizations.

On the academic side, I graduated from the American University in Cairo where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics. Throughout her influential career, she has received numerous awards in recognition of her leadership and strategic thinking.

Manal Hassan is known for her passion for sustainability and her dedicated work towards achieving it. Therefore, she was chosen as one of the 50 best women in Egypt in 2017 and 2018, and she also received the Distinguished Alumni Award at the American University in Cairo in 2022.
