In Cairo, the Egyptian health sector witnessed a remarkable scientific event, represented by the holding of the Excellence in Neurosurgery Conference, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Population, headed by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population. The conference, which came under the slogan “Honoring our past by creating a better future,” represented a prestigious international platform that brought together an elite group of senior local and international experts inNeurosurgery, at a pivotal moment that calls for evaluating the progress achieved and strengthening cooperation frameworks towards a more just and sustainable health future.

The importance of this event comes in light of the increasing health and environmental challenges, which make investing in subspecialties a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development. Health care is not just therapeutic services, but rather a vital focus in any comprehensive development vision, especially when it is related to a sensitive specialty such as neurosurgery.

Excellence in neurosurgery reflects the development of health infrastructure

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed during his speech at the conference that neurosurgery represents an advanced model for the integration of technology and human resources in the Egyptian health system, indicating that this specialty has now received a clear priority in the state’s health policies, and this was reflected in the integration of neurosurgery services and cerebral catheters within the presidential initiative to end waiting lists, which contributed to saving the lives of tens of thousands.

Since the launch of the initiative in 2018, more than 183,000 neurosurgery operations have been performed, along with nearly 14,000 brain catheters, which reflects the development of health infrastructure in Egypt. These achievements are distributed among the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and affiliated agencies, including the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers, and the hospitals of the Health Care Authority.

In this comprehensive context of developing precise health care, the boom witnessed by the neurosurgery sector in Egypt has emerged as one of the pillars of the comprehensive health insurance system, which the state seeks to implement gradually in various governorates, as it is one of the most important goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Expansion of specialized treatment centers for strokes

Within the same strategy, the Ministry of Health and Population pays special attention to the specialty of strokes, as 7 accredited centers have been established in accordance with international standards so far, with work underway to generalize this experience in all governorates. This step reflects the state’s commitment to providing rapid and fully equipped response centers capable of providing precise therapeutic interventions that reduce disability rates and raise the quality of life of patients.

This expansion represents a practical translation of the concept of health equity. The state seeks to ensure that precise and critical services are available to every citizen on an equal footing, regardless of their geographical location or social status, and this comes within the framework of achieving sustainable development, which is based on ensuring the comprehensiveness, quality and continuity of care.

Hence, this trend is a natural prelude to maximizing the benefit of major scientific conferences, such as the Conference on Excellence in Neurosurgery, which combines knowledge exchange and strategic planning for a more integrated health future.

Institutional partnerships for the development of health insurance

During the conference activities, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the General Authority for Health Care and the Egyptian Health Council, in a step that reflects the trend towards strengthening institutional partnership in the fields of training, qualification, and accreditation of specialized programs, which are the foundations for developing the health system in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Health Care Authority, indicated that the Authority has carried out more than 10,000 precise surgical interventions in the specialty of the brain and nerves since the launch of the comprehensive health insurance system, of which about 75% were highly skilled operations, including 1,700 complex surgeries during the past year alone.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki explained that what has been achieved in the field of neurosurgery within the Authority’s facilities represents a qualitative leap, thanks to the adoption of the world’s latest precision technologies, such as the use of neuroendoscopes and advanced surgical microscopes. This modernization is one of the aspects of digital transformation in the health sector, which is directly linked to enhancing efficiency and speed and reducing error rates.

Towards localizing medical expertise and enhancing Egypt’s position regionally

The conference’s remarkable international attendance – including experts such as Dr. Si Hoon Kim, from Korea University – confirms that Egypt has become a destination with increasing scientific weight in advanced fields of medicine, especially in delicate neurosurgery. Kim praised the Egyptian experience, reviewing the results of his successful operations conducted inside the country, including the treatment of herniated discs and spinal tumors.

This openness to global expertise, and the exchange of knowledge between institutions, is what constitutes the cornerstone of the localization of the highly specialized medical industry, and through continued support for training and international cooperation, Egypt can assume a leadership position on the map of global medicine, benefiting from the advanced infrastructure.

In conclusion, theThe Earth Guards Foundation confirms that what the neurosurgery sector in Egypt is witnessing is a clear reflection of a health vision that intersects with sustainable development priorities, in terms of ensuring quality, achieving justice, and investing in technology, and with continued efforts in training, partnership, and localization of medical industries, the way is ready to build a health system that raises the value of… human rights, and consolidates Egypt’s position as a regional leader in the fields of advanced medicine and health care.
