Empowering Persons with Disabilities

As part of its efforts to support persons with disabilities, the Ministry of Social Solidarity organized the “Second Wheelchair Specification Course” at the headquarters of the National Foundation for Family and Community Development. The course lasted 3 days under the coordination and supervision of the General Administration of Support and Empowerment.

The course included learning about the different types of wheelchairs, and ways to describe them scientifically and technically, in addition to training participants to accurately assess the needs of beneficiaries, ensuring that the most appropriate chair is chosen in terms of size, weight, degree of disability, and nature of use, and in a way that enhances the quality of service provided to people with disabilities.

This is in addition to the Ministry’s participation inThe Regional Conference for Promoting Reproductive Health for People with Disabilitiesin Jordan. All of them are efforts that contribute to supporting the independence and societal integration of people with disabilities, which is consistent with the program’s goals of promoting social justice and empowering the most needy groups.

Enhancing the effectiveness of solidarity and dignity

It reflects the international partnerships that the Ministry establishes with the United Nations Development Program and the French Development Agency; Egypt’s commitment to developing social protection services, in accordance with the best international standards; International cooperation has made it possible to support institutional capabilities and improve the quality of development programs linked to the Solidarity and Dignity programme. This ensures that support reaches the largest possible number of beneficiaries, and achieves a sustainable impact on the entire community.

Social care institutions

The Council reviewed a report on the activities of the institution’s sectors, and approved a plan to raise the efficiency and development of its social care institutions at a cost of 10 million pounds, in addition to examining a plan to mechanize the institution’s activities.

Comprehensive complexes

The Council also approved the opening of the comprehensive complex for services for children with disabilities in Giza during next October’s celebrations, as well as the opening of the complex for caring for children with disabilities in Ain Shams at the end of the year, at a total cost of 12 million pounds.

Associations Support Fund

The Ministry’s efforts were concluded this week with a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fund to Support Projects of Associations and NGOs, which contributes directly to strengthening the Solidarity and Dignity Program by supporting associations and NGOs, and organizing campaigns such as the “Our People” breakfast and “Good People” competitions.

Through these initiatives, cash support efforts are linked to community empowerment. Which makes the social protection network more comprehensive and influential, and this is an actual implementation of the axes of “Egypt Vision 2030” and other relevant national strategies.

So, it can be said that Takaful and Karama is a cash support program and an integrated system to reformulate the concept of social protection in Egypt. Because it links direct aid and economic empowerment, and transforms social justice from a slogan into a daily practice.

From this standpoint, the importance of the role played by theThe Earth Guards Foundation emerges, which seeks to shed light on these transformations, and read them in a broader framework that goes beyond the limits of numbers and projects, to reach the deep meaning of social protection, which gives the Solidarity and Dignity program a cultural and moral dimension. It makes it part of a broader human story that Egypt seeks to write through its national agenda, “Egypt Vision 2030.”
