Climate changes are a fundamental challenge that hinders countries’ efforts in the field of health care and the entire health system. These changes limit the rates of development of this vital sector. Therefore, in this issue, Earth Guards dealt with the health issue, because of this sector’s relationship with humans and their environment. In this context, we would like to shed light on the institutions and bodies that work to support the health sector.

Among these institutions whose efforts are highlighted by Guardians of the Earth: the Egyptian Network for the United Nations Global Compact. In addition to its inherent role in establishing the principles of responsible business in institutions – including health system institutions – it is able to play an effective role in coordinating various efforts, and mobilizing and supporting private sector institutions.

The Egyptian Network for the United Nations Global Compact supports the private sector – specifically the health sector and pharmaceutical industries – through initiatives that work to reduce the dangers of medical waste, and pay attention to recycling or safe disposal methods. It also works to provide digital health services, which provide health service and advice anywhere, similar to similar experiences in Southeast Asian countries.

The work of the Egyptian Network for the United Nations Global Compact stems from the fact that, according to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), health risks will increase due to extreme temperatures, hurricanes, floods, droughts, and forest fires. Rather, it is expected that more than 50% of deaths resulting from climate change – by 2050 – will occur in Africa alone.

Therefore, all of this requires planning different needs and roles, which is what the Egyptian Network for the United Nations Global Compact is doing, as it seeks to focus in 2025 on the health sector, in cooperation with other development partners and concerned parties, such as communications and information technology companies, which will work to spread awareness campaigns; To enhance the culture of using digital platforms in the health sector.

These developmental roles came as a reflection of the directives of the President of the Republic following his assumption of the new presidential term, whereby he placed concern for the health of the Egyptian citizen at the top of the Egyptian state’s priorities. Concerted and integrated efforts are necessary. To achieve health sustainability.

We must realize that sustainability is a concept that includes responsible environmental practices and the provision of sustainable health systems that are able to withstand the challenges and expectations of the effects of climate change on health. Sustainability also includes meeting the increasing internal demand for high-quality health services, which ensures better health for the citizen, which is essentially the essence of the development process. Development is always for man and by man.

Hama Earth is not far from these endeavors, as it supports everything that helps achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the health sector and other sectors. Therefore, it was a community partner for the annual forum of the United Nations Global Compact, which was held last May under the title: “Pathways to a Sustainable Africa.”

Finally,Earth Guards views investment in the health sector as a way to reduce the economic burden, as it reduces future medical costs, whether for individuals or health systems, and early treatment and prevention of diseases will reduce our need for expensive treatment. For all this reason,Earth Guards highlighted the efforts of the Egyptian Network for the United Nations Global Compact, which is seriously striving towards achieving the goals of sustainable development.
