The Health Care Authority discusses with the Republic of Serbia enhancing cooperation to support digital transformation

The information revolution has brought about a radical transformation in various sectors, and the health care sector has been one of the fields that has benefited most from this development, as it has provided digital solutions and applications based on artificial intelligence that have contributed to improving the quality of medical services, accelerating diagnosis, supporting the pharmaceutical industry, and raising the efficiency of health system management.

On the other hand, this transformation imposed challenges related to the governance of the use of modern technologies and data protection, which prompted countries to develop strategies that ensure maximizing the benefit of these tools while reducing the risks associated with them.

Based on this trend, international partnerships in health care are expanding to include the transfer of medical technology,Exchanging experiences, supporting digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications, in a way that enhances the efficiency of health systems and improves the quality of services provided to citizens, as well as supporting the pharmaceutical industries and medical tourism.

Strengthening partnership in the fields of health care

In this context, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, received Ambassador Miroslav Czestovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the headquarters of the General Authority for Health Care, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the health sector, and expand areas of partnership between the two sides in the fields of health care, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and medical manufacturing, Hospitalization and medical tourism, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia, expressing his appreciation for his active participation in the activities of the Africa Health ExCon 2026 conference and exhibition, stressing that Egyptian-Serbian relations are witnessing rapid development in various fields, in light of the great support they enjoy from the leadership of the two countries, which opens broad horizons for cooperation in the health sector.

Technology-based health cooperation

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki confirmed that the General Health Care Authority is looking forward to building a sustainable institutional partnership with the Serbian side, explaining that an integrated vision has been prepared for a memorandum of understanding between the two sides that includes a number of priority areas of cooperation, including planning for primary health care and hospitals, digital transformation and electronic medical records, and applications.Artificial intelligence in health care, pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing, exchanging technical expertise, and building capabilities, which contributes to achieving a qualitative leap in health cooperation between the two countries.

The head of the authority indicated that the next stage will witness work to activate cooperation in the fields of medical technology transfer, and benefit from Serbian expertise in the fields of hospitalization, rehabilitation, and nursing services, in addition to implementing programs to twin hospitals between the two sides, which will contribute to the exchange of administrative and medical experiences and the transfer of international best practices.

The first virtual hospital of its kind in Africa

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Authority reviewed the virtual hospital project in Ismailia Governorate, stressing that it represents a qualitative leap in applications of digital medicine and smart health care, as it is the first of its kind in Egypt and Africa.It is the third largest in the Middle East, and the largest in the Arab world.

The hospital provides an advanced model of digital health services by providing specialized medical consultations remotely, following up on patients, supporting emergency departments and intensive care, in addition to integration with radiology, analysis and diagnostic services, which contributes to the speed of medical response and the continuity of service provision according to standards of quality and efficiency.

The project also reflects the use of modern technology to achieve health justice, by making advanced specialized medical services available to citizens in the governorates implementing the comprehensive health insurance system without the need to travel long distances, as well as supporting clinical decision-making and enhancing the efficiency of the health system. This comes within the Authority’s direction to expand the applications of digital medicine and artificial intelligence, and to qualify human cadres capable of managing and operating these applications.Models according to international best practices.

This trend reflects the role of modern technology in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by enhancing access to more efficient and comprehensive health services, in a way that supports the third goal of good health and well-being, and enhances innovation efforts and developing digital solutions within the framework of the ninth goal related to industry, innovation and infrastructure.

Serbian praise of the Egyptian experience in health care

For his part, Ambassador Miroslav Crestovic praised Egypt’s development in the health care sector and the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system, stressing that the Egyptian experience represents an advanced model for health reform in the region, and that Egypt has a strategic location that qualifies it to be a gateway to regional and African markets.

He also expressed his country’s aspiration toExpanding cooperation with Egypt in the fields of health care, pharmaceutical industries, and medical devices, and building on successful models of medical technology transfer between companies in the two countries.

The Serbian ambassador explained that the upcoming free trade agreement between Egypt and Serbia will contribute to opening new horizons for investment and economic cooperation, in a way that supports partnerships in the health sector, stressing the importance of moving bilateral relations to implementation projects that achieve added value for both parties, and enhance the path of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Egyptian-Serbian cooperation in the health care sector embodies the importance of international partnerships in transferring knowledge and expertise and developing innovative solutions, in line with the seventeenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which focuses on enhancing cooperation between countries and institutions to achieve development goals.
