With economic empowerment, the Ministry of Social Solidarity expands the umbrella of social protection

Social protection is the basis for building a more just and equitable society, and an integrated development tool aimed at empowering individuals, expanding economic opportunities, reducing poverty, and promoting equality, ensuring the participation of all citizens in the development process.

This trend is consistent with “ Egypt Vision 2030 “, which places humans at the heart of development and construction processes, and is also consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably eradicating poverty, achieving gender equality, providing decent work, and reducing inequalities. In this context, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, led by Dr. Maya Morsi, continues to consolidate its role in implementing further Egyptian human development efforts, through implementing integrated policies that combine social protection and economic empowerment, and expanding the scope of partnerships with state institutions, the private sector, and civil society, in a way that enhances the ability of the most vulnerable groups to move from dependence on support to active participation in the production and development process.

The Ministry’s activities in the past few days have reflected the diversity of the files it has worked on, starting with supporting health care for the most needy groups, empowering women economically, preserving traditional crafts, and developing rural industries, through enhancing the protection of women from violence, all the way to investing in targeted media and cooperating with academic institutions, within the framework of a vision aimed at building a systemMore sustainable and comprehensive social protection.

Support for rare disease patients

The Ministry has begun its most prominent recent efforts by participating in the activities of the first edition of the Mersal Foundation Forum for Rare Diseases 2026, where Dr. Hazem Khamis, “Adviser to the Minister of Social Solidarity for Health Affairs,” conveyed the greetings of Dr. Maya Morsi, stressing the Ministry’s keenness to support civil society institutions working in this file, and to enhance cooperation with hospitals, research centers, and concerned parties.

In this forum, the Ministry stressed the importance of integration between government agencies, the private sector and civil society organizations to provide integrated health, social and psychological services for patients with rare diseases and their families.

Radio dramaSustainable

In the context of employing soft power to spread community awareness, the Ministry of Social Solidarity announced the start of recording episodes of the radio series “ The Shadow of the Courier “, starring the artist Iyad Nassar, under the auspices of the ministry, and this is part of a media project aimed at highlighting family and protection issues. Care and economic empowerment.

Regarding this, Dr. Maya Morsi, “Minister of Social Solidarity,” confirmed that art is an effective means of reaching citizens and opening a societal dialogue on issues affecting the Egyptian family, explaining that messages of protection and care need creative works capable of transforming them into human stories close to people, especially with regard to issues of combating addiction, family cohesion, and societal responsibility.

A new protocol for women’s empowerment

One of the most prominent milestones in the efforts of the Minister of Social Solidarity is the signing of a tripartite cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Health and Solidarity and the Chamber of Ready-made Clothes and Home Furnishings at the Federation of Egyptian Industries.

The protocol aims to integrate economic empowerment programs with reproductive health and family planning services within work environments, in a way that enhances women’s participation in the labor market and improves the quality of life for workers and their families.

In this event, the Minister reviewed the Ministry’s experience in training and employing two thousand women who are beneficiaries of the “Solidarity and Dignity” program, in addition to developing an industrial complex in Fayoum Governorate, and establishing an integrated nursery for the children of female workers, in a model that combines employment and social care.

“ Diyarna”… a national platform to support craftsmen

Dr. Maya Morsi opened the activities of the exhibition “ Diyarna Handicrafts and Heritage “ in the Marina 4 area on the North Coast, under the slogan “ Egypt Speaks Literally “ The exhibition witnessed the participation of more than 450 male and female exhibitors from various governorates, and thousands of heritage and environmental products were displayed, including:

• Carpets and kilims
• Wooden products
• Copper artifacts
• Micro Products

Accordingly, the Minister of Social Solidarity confirmed that the “Diyarna” exhibition has become one of the most important tools for economic empowerment. Because it provides new markets for artisans and productive families, and preserves Egyptian cultural identity, noting that the Ministry has organized more than 73 exhibitions since July 2024 with the participation of more than 2,588 male and female exhibitors, without placing financial burdens on the general budget, in partnership with various banks and institutions.

The Spanish experience in protecting women

The Ministry of Social Solidarity participated as part of a high-level Egyptian delegation on an official visit to Spain. In order to exchange experiences on national systems to combat violence against women, in cooperation with the World Bank. The members of the delegation reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Social Solidarity to protect women through the combined unit for services to protect women from violence.And the hosting centers spread across the governorates, and the “Mawaddah” program, in addition to the strategic financial system for economic empowerment, which includes 34 partner agencies.

Development of the Rural Industries Support Fund

Dr. Maya Morsi also followed up on the executive plan of the Rural and Environmental Industries Support Fund, and reviewed the performance indicators after its restructuring, as its activity expanded to include 20 governorates, provided microfinance, supported artisans, implemented training programs and workshops, and participated in local and international exhibitions to market thousands of products.

The Minister confirmed that the Fund represents one of the Ministry’s most important tools for transforming beneficiaries of social protection programs into producers, by supporting small projects, localizing rural industries, and disseminating technology.Green, and stimulating innovation, which contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
