The Health Accreditation and Regulatory Authority approves new facilities to enhance the quality of health care
In light of the state’s trend towards enhancing the quality and efficiency of health facilities to ensure the provision of health care with the highest international quality standards, the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control adopts a vision that all health facilities, both public and private, should have the ability to conduct self-evaluation and improve performance to ensure compliance with standards and obtain accreditation.
Therefore, the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Oversight is making unremitting efforts to provide support to health facilities so that they are qualified to obtain the accreditation standards that are internationally accredited by the International Society for Healthcare Quality (ESCWA).
16 health facilities obtained accreditation
In this context, the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, headed by Dr. Ahmed Taha, announced in an official statement the latest decisions of the Higher Accreditation Committee, and the statement included that (16) health facilities obtained (full/initial) accreditation, in accordance with the standards issued by “GAHAR” and which obtained international accreditation from the International Association for Healthcare Quality (ESCWA), ensuring the provision of safe, high-quality health care in accordance with international best practices.
In light of North Sinai Governorate’s readiness to implement the second phase of theComprehensive Health Insurance System, to ensure access to a safe and decent health service for every citizen, the committee’s decisions revealed the granting of an initial accreditation certificate from the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Control to the first two health facilities in the governorate, which are “Abu Tawila Family Medicine Unit” and “Al-Shallak Family Medicine Unit,” which reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing sustainability of quality and consolidating Principles of justice in providing health care.

The first psychiatric hospital to receive full accreditation
The Authority believes that mental health is an integral part of the inherent right to health, the report indicated the success of the Psychiatry and Addiction Hospital at the Armed Forces Medical Complex in Maadi in obtaining full accreditation, thus becoming the first government mental health hospital to obtain accreditation from the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control.
Hence, this achievement confirms the extent of the new health system’s interest in the right of the mentally ill to obtain the same amount of safe, quality and respectful health care, ensuring that citizens receive full health care.
Approval of a new university health facility
The decisions included obtaining the Southern Hospital affiliated with the National Cancer Institute at Cairo University, obtaining the initial accreditation certificate in accordance with the quality standards issued by “GAHAR” and internationally accredited, after passing all stages of evaluation, to join the list of accredited university facilities, thus enhancing the provision of integrated diagnostic and therapeutic services to oncology patients, within the framework of a health system that places patient safety and quality of care at the top of its priorities.
It should be noted that the National Cancer Institute is one of the most prominent centers specialized in diagnosing and treating all types of cancer in Egypt and the Arab countries, and includes specialized departments in surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and molecular and genetic research on tumors, and its Southern Hospital’s obtaining accreditation reflects its commitment to the best international practices in health care.
Accreditation of health facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population
The committee also decided to grant initial accreditation to three health facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, after passing the evaluation stages and meeting the quality standards issued by the authority, which include:
- Al-Ahraz Family Medicine Unit in Qalyubia
- Shoushay Family Medicine Unit in Menoufia
- Medical Center, New 15th District, Sharqia
The decisions also included granting full accreditation certificates to two primary care facilities in Aswan Governorate, affiliated with the Health Care Authority, which are:
- Al-Atwani Family Medicine Unit
- Al-Qaftiya Family Medicine Unit
In the same context, Dr. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, confirmed that the recent decisions of the Supreme Accreditation Committee represent an important strategic step in the path of enhancing the quality of health care at the level of all governorates of the Republic, in various governmental, private and university health sectors, congratulating all health facilities that have obtained accreditation, pointing to the extent of the work teams’ dedication and commitment to applying quality standards, and their effective contribution to the success of Egypt’s 2030 vision to develop the health system to be comprehensive, Safe and fair.

Accordingly, accreditation has become a major tool for enhancing health competition, raising operating efficiency, improving the use of resources, and ensuring the quality of services provided to citizens, while consolidating the principles of justice and humanity in providing health care, noting that “Jahar” continues to support health facilities through training, evaluation and technical support, ensuring the application of quality standards and every citizen’s access to the necessary health service in a timely manner and with international quality.
