Egypt supports the right to development and strengthening international cooperation during the meetings of the United Nations Assembly

The right to development represents one of the basic rights that should be guaranteed to everyone, ensuring that people have fair opportunities for progress and improving the standard of living, while respecting the rights of others and not harming them, and in a way that makes development a common path that does not exclude a country or a society.

On this basis, Egypt supports expanding paths of international cooperation and partnerships between countries, in a way that contributes to addressing development challenges, enhancing the exchange of experiences and resources, and building capabilities, leading to more comprehensive development whose fruits benefit everyone. This vision was embodied in Egypt’s speech during the high-level meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Nations United Nations on the right to development, within the work of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Reflecting Egypt’s keenness to support the seventeenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals: establishing partnerships to achieve the goals, by expanding paths of international cooperation, enhancing solidarity between countries, and supporting technology transfer, capacity building, and exchange of experiences, which contributes to providing an international environment more supportive of the ability of developing countries to achieve their development goals.

The right to development and the human rights system

From this standpoint, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, delivered Egypt’s speech during the high-level meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, during his participation on behalf of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in the meetings of the eighty-first session of the Assembly. General of the United Nations.

At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister stated: “I am pleased to share with you the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Assembly Declaration on the Right to Development, which is a milestone in the development of the human rights system, and came with an important vision that calls for renewed commitment to it, which links human rights and development, between national responsibility and international cooperation, and between human participation in making development and his right to equitably enjoy its fruits. Egypt was one of the countries voting in favor of this declaration, and has remained supportive of him.”

Removing obstacles to achieve development

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also added: “After four decades, there is still a wide gap between recognition of the right to development and the actual ability to exercise it. Conflicts and geopolitical crises And multiple economic and economic conditions, all of which impose increasing burdens on developing countries, and threaten to undermine the development gains that have been achieved.”

The Prime Minister said: “Egypt emphasizes here that the true realization of the right to development requires a favorable international environment, and a more just and equitable economic and financial system that addresses debt burdens, supports technology transfer and capacity building, as well as removing structural obstacles that limit the ability of developing countries to achieve their development goals, refraining from imposing coercive unilateral measures that are inconsistent with the principles of international law, and working to enhance international cooperation and solidarity.”

This approach comes within the framework of supporting the tenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals to reduce inequalities, by pushing towards addressing the development gaps facing developing countries, and removing obstacles that limit their ability to achieve Development, providing more equitable opportunities to benefit from resources, technology and capacity building.

Affirming the right to development through a dignified life

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stressed that, based on its national responsibility, Egypt was keen to translate the right to development into policies and programs that put the human being at the heart of the development process, as the past years witnessed great strides that affect the lives of the citizen, through developing the infrastructure for the sectors of energy, transportation, drinking water, sanitation, and others, in parallel with investing in health, education, and expanding the social protection network.

Empowering women, youth and people with disabilities

In parallel, Egypt continued its efforts to empower women, youth and people with disabilities, giving priority to the countryside and areas most in need through a number of initiatives. Nationalism, foremost among which is the presidential initiative “A Decent Life,” which has become a role model for local development.

This comes within the framework of the keenness to empower women and enhance their participation in development paths within the framework of supporting the fifth goal of the sustainable development goals, which calls for achieving gender equality, in addition to the tenth goal concerned with reducing inequalities, which reflects a trend towards expanding opportunities for participation and benefiting from the fruits of development, in addition to supporting youth and people with disabilities and providing opportunities for various groups to contribute to building society.

In conclusion, Egyptian participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly reflects a vision that treats the right to development as an inherent human right, and a path whose goal is not complete without removing the gaps that prevent its fruits from reaching everyone. From this standpoint, Egypt comes first Countries supporting the consolidation of this right, by combining national action that puts people at the heart of development, and calling for international cooperation more capable of addressing the challenges facing developing countries.
