Social Solidarity and Earth Guards honor Sir Magdy Yacoub and the Vodafone and CEMEX Foundations
In a celebration attended by government officials, artists, and media professionals, “Earth Guards” magazine honored institutions - as well as individuals - pioneering in the field of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as the “Earth Guards Shield” competition was a call for solidarity between the private and governmental sectors in development and environmental work; In implementation of the steps of “Egypt Vision 2030”.

This, the “Earth Guards Shield” competition comes as one of the magazine’s achievements since its launch until now, and this is in light of the Egyptian movement at the regional and global levels with regard to sustainable development, especially after Egypt’s success in hosting “COP27” last year, and this was confirmed byMinistry of Solidarity Social In the form of moral sponsorship for this pioneering competition, under the leadership of the Honorable Mrs. Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, “Minister of Social Solidarity”, who was at the head of the honorable attendance.
It is worth noting that this honor is considered the highest honor given by the magazine to institutions that have succeeded in adopting and implementing the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and this is done by conducting a number of objective evaluations that measure the contributions of these institutions in the field of development, as well as measuring their cultural, educational, social and other roles, provided that these efforts are realistic and effective.
The ceremony of handing over the shield was attended by the Minister of Social Solidarity - Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj - and this was in the presence of a group ofmembers of the House of Representativesand a number of chairmen of committees in the House, led byCounsel/ Ahmed Saad El-Din “First Undersecretary of the House of Representatives”, and the media also had a share in attending this ceremony, Which was represented by the presence of the prominent journalistTamer Amin, in addition to businessmen and businessmen and women of Egyptian society, as well as those interested in the field of sustainable development and community work.
The ceremony included segments that began with the playing of the national anthem, and this was before Dr. Reham Farouk, “Chairman of the Magazine’s Board of Directors,” delivered her speech in which she expressed her overwhelming happiness and extreme pride in the efforts made by “Earth Guards” in support of development work in Egyptian society. Emphasizing the effective role of this distinguished competition in implementing Egyptian trends towards promoting development issues and establishing concepts for this vital field at all levels.
Farouk also went on to confirm in precise terms this connection between the magazine and its governmental supporter - the Ministry of Social Solidarity - and that without the support of the Ministry under the leadership of Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj, there would not have been a societal achievement like this, especially since it is an area that requires everyone - government and people - to emphasize the formulas of effective participation and methods of solidarity among all segments of society.

After this, the honorees received the shield, as the first shield was received byVodafone Egypt Foundation, and this was through Ms. May Yassin, “Secretary General of Community Development, and Head of the Sustainability Business Department at Vodafone.” In her speech, she emphasized Vodafone’s happiness, and how Egyptian society views its work in the Egyptian region into consideration.
Then the second shield was handed over to Ms. Zainab Hegazy, “Director of Public Communications and Sustainability atCEMEX Cement Corporation”. Her speech was very interested in talking about industries that take an environmentally friendly and sustainable approach, explaining how CEMEX saw this high-level honor, which evaluated the organization’s efforts in the fields of environment and sustainable development, especially its efforts in the education sector.
In the same context, Hegazy spoke about the most important initiatives launched by CEMEX, namely the “Plastic Enough” initiative, noting that it was an initiative - and still is - with tangible results in Egyptian society, and it truly reflects CEMEX’s concept of sustainable development, and its constant desire to achieve its goals.
And since the “Earth Guards” magazine was a pioneering step with an effective impact in the field of supporting community work and sustainable development, not only at the institutional level, but also at the individual level - it honored those who made individual contributions in the field of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the Earth Guards shield, and at the head of them was the international Egyptian physician SirMagdy Yacoub, and the shield was received on his behalf by Dr. Muhammad Zakaria, “Director of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Center.”
