Sustainable Development Report for 2023.. Egypt advances six places in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced an improvement in Egypt’s performance in the 2023 Sustainable Development Report, which is the periodic report issued by the University of Cambridge, in cooperation with the German Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation, and theSustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), which works under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and under the supervision of a sustainable development expert. Dr. Jeffrey Sachs.

Regarding this important announcement, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, explained that the Sustainable Development Report reflects the actual performance of countries’ steps towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and it also indicates areas that require urgent steps; To achieve developmental improvement at all levels.

Al-Saeed added that the Sustainable Development Report states that Egypt has advanced six places this year in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index, ranking No. 81 out of 166 countries included in the report, and this is compared to its rank last year, where it was No. 87 out of 163 countries.

The minister continued, saying: “Egypt’s score has risen in this index, achieving 69.6 in the current year, compared to 68.7 in 2022. Which means increasing Egypt’s efforts regarding achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

In the same context, Dr. Mona Essam, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Sustainable Development, confirmed that it is an international report that reflects the extent of the development of Egypt’s performance in achieving these Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2023; Because of the improvement Egypt has witnessed in this field compared to 2022.

Regarding the arrangement of these goals, the Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Sustainable Development said: “The goals were arranged as follows: the fourth international goal “quality education,” the seventh international goal “clean and affordable energy,” then the seventeenth international goal “constructing partnerships to achieve the goals”; These are goals that Egypt attaches special importance to.”

Issam indicated that the 2023 Sustainable Development Report has an objective methodology that crystallizes the progress of Egypt - and other countries - in its steps towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by displaying scores on a scale from 0 to 100, which is a percentage that indicates optimal performance among the countries covered by the index, and that this percentage evaluation is constant among countries; To generate comparable scores and rankings.

It is worth noting that Egypt is actively seeking to sponsor and implement international goals. In order to reach strong indicators in its steps related to achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
