President Sisi meets with international institutions to enhance international cooperation during the “Africa-France” summit

The international system is going through a series of rapid transformations and fluctuations, which impose many regional and economic crises on the paths of development and stability. Therefore, the importance of countries adopting foreign policies based on strengthening partnerships and expanding circles of multilateral international cooperation is increasing, as it is one of the main paths to supporting security and stability and achieving sustainable development.

In this context, the Egyptian state continues to intensify its diplomatic movements at the regional and international levels, based on a vision aimed at strengthening cooperation with various institutions and international actors in a way that contributes to supporting comprehensive development efforts and confronting the growing repercussions of global crises.

Egyptian movements in recent years reflect a balanced trend that combines strengthening the political and diplomatic role of the state in addressing regional crises, and expanding economic and development cooperation with international institutions, in a way that supports the ability of the national economy to deal with global changes.

President Sisi values cooperation with the United Nations

In this context, Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of theUnited Nations, on the sidelines of the “Africa-France” summit held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that Mr. President expressed, at the beginning of the meeting, Egypt’s appreciation for the efforts of Mr. Guterres and his leadership of the international work system during the past years, in light of very complex international circumstances and multiple crises, praising the existing cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations, whether with regard to regional crises and conflicts, or within the framework of fruitful international development cooperation within the “United Nations Framework for Cooperation with Egypt 2023-2027,” which supports the state’s efforts. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation for the cooperation shown by Egypt since he took office, appreciating the diplomatic efforts undertaken by Mr. President to enhance security and stability in the Middle East and Africa, describing the Egyptian role as the basic pillar of the efforts.

A consensus of visions between the President and the Secretary General

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that the meeting addressed current regional and international developments, as the discussion reflected a consensus of visions between Mr. President Sisi and the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the importance of strengthening international efforts aimed at maintaining international peace and security, in light of the interconnected crises and challenges the world is witnessing that have repercussions on stability and development.

Mr. President also noted the need to support diplomatic paths and peaceful solutions to conflicts, in a way that contributes to protecting the sovereignty of states, preserving the capabilities of peoples, and enhancing regional and international stability, stressing the pivotal role played by United Nations agencies in supporting humanitarian and development efforts, especially with regard to providing aid, enhancing food security, and alleviating the severity of humanitarian crises in various affected regions.

For his part, the Secretary-General pointed out the challenges facing the work of UN agencies, especially the increasing funding pressures, praising the active Egyptian role in supporting humanitarian relief efforts and enhancing international cooperation to confront the repercussions of global crises, thus contributing to reducing poverty and hunger and supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Meeting with the Director of the International Monetary Fund

In the same context, Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, on the sidelines of his sovereignty’s participation in the Africa-France Summit, expressing during the meeting Egypt’s great appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the International Monetary Fund in implementing the economic reform program, including its objectives and broad structural reforms aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.

His Excellency also welcomed the successful completion of the fifth and sixth reviews and their approval by the Fund’s Executive Council last February, stressing Egypt’s commitment to continuing to complete economic reforms and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030 despite the current international and regional challenges and crises.

Enhancing international cooperation and supporting global stability

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, explained that the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund praised the strong political will of the Egyptian state and its continued commitment to the path of economic reform aimed at enhancing macroeconomic stability, achieving financial discipline, and developing the business environment, stressing the Fund’s keenness to continue close cooperation with the Egyptian government to support these efforts and enhance the sustainability of growth.

The official spokesman added that Mr. President discussed with the Executive Director the importance of strengthening international cooperation in facing the escalating global economic challenges, and the pressures they impose on the economies of developing countries, especially with regard to energy security, food security, and the stability of global supply chains, in light of a state of international economic uncertainty.

His Excellency stressed the importance of international financial institutions and development partners playing a more effective role in supporting the economic stability of developing and least developed countries, and enhancing their ability to withstand external shocks, by providing flexible support mechanisms that contribute to enhancing financial stability and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), pointing to the proactive policies and measures Egypt has taken to maintain economic stability and enhance its flexibility.

In conclusion, these moves confirm Egypt’s keenness to consolidate its position as an effective international partner in supporting regional stability, in addition to continuing economic reform and sustainable development efforts, through cooperation with UN organizations and international financing institutions to support development goals and achieve a greater degree of economic and social flexibility.
