President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Petersburg Climate Dialogue

“It is too late.” This is how the first session of the “Petersburg Climate Dialogue” began, which was organized by Germany and Egypt from Monday, July 18, to Tuesday, July 19, as part of the preparation for the COP27 World Climate Summit, which will be held in the city of “Sharm El-Sheikh,” Egypt, next November.

The dialogue began with a speech by Mr. Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, with an invitation and a distress call to make great, great, and intense efforts. To combat global warming, they continued by saying: “The climate crisis is now the biggest security problem for all living beings... There are no limits to the climate crisis caused by humans, so there should be no limits to the solutions to this crisis.”

“A heat wave has struck large parts of the globe in the past few weeks. It is expected that the phenomenon of global warming will continue and that high temperatures will be the natural state of the climate.” This was the comment of some climate scientists who attended the conference. Therefore, countries are striving to try to reduce and limit the effects of global warming, and at the forefront of these countries are: Germany and Egypt.

Among the most important activities and results of the Petersburg Climate Dialogue and within the framework of international cooperation between Egypt and Germany: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated that he would discuss with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the agreement to purchase liquefied natural gas from Egypt. The activities of the Petersburg Conference continue within the framework of Egypt and Germany’s efforts to achieve sustainable developmentand Vision 2030to preserve the environment.
