The First International Conference on Civic Education… Empowering Youth towards a Sustainable Future

Young people constitute the basic pillar of any society striving towards sustainable development, as they are the active and innovative forces capable of transforming ideas into tangible reality. Civic education represents a strategic tool for refining their abilities to deal with contemporary challenges, enhancing their role in decision-making and contributing to local and international development policies. By providing platforms for the international exchange of experiences and ideas, the conference allows young people to learn about best practices and adopt innovative solutions in the fields of education, health, economics, and citizenship.

Launching of the First International Conference on Civic Education

In this context, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, is interested in strengthening the role of youth and making them active citizens in society. The Ministry of Youth and Sports – the Central Administration for Civic Education, the General Administration for Civic Education and Qualification of Youth Cadres, is preparing to launch the first international conference for civic education under the slogan “Together… for Active Youth,” and it will continue from 28 to 31 December.

The conference will be held with the participation of a number of young people from countries:

  • Palestine
  • Libya
  • Yemen
  • Somalia
  • Iraq
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • India
  • Mauritania

Youth Empowerment, Civic Education, Innovation

The conference activities include opening sessions, research paper presentations, and interactive workshops to discuss the following:

  • The role of civic education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Strengthening democracy, civic participation and governance
  • National Youth Strategy
  • Innovation, artificial intelligence, and technology in achieving quality education
  • Mechanism for integrating people with disabilities using artificial intelligence technology
  • Preparing young people to face current and future challenges, including digital education, distance learning, the use ofartificial intelligenceand digital citizenship.

The activities also focus on promoting critical thinking and mental independence through stimulating discussions and analysis of real problems.

Exchanging scientific experiences

The conference also aims to exchange scientific expertise from youth groups in national work in various specializations at the level of all participating countries in a decentralized manner, ensuring increased national awareness by preparing young people and equipping them to assume national responsibility towards their communities through planning and implementing national community activities to develop the capabilities of young people at the international level and making optimal use of their creative abilities by increasing youth awareness of national issues, supporting the policy of constructive community dialogue, and supporting the concept of political action concerned with national issues.

Coming up with the best recommendations and submitting them to the relevant authorities for implementation

The conference is keen to exchange experiences in the field of civic education, to discuss all the working papers presented and to come up with the best recommendations, in addition to submitting them to the relevant authorities for implementation, within the National Strategy for Youth and Youth, which aims to empower young people and provide them with the information, attitudes and skills necessary to exercise their rights and responsibilities as active citizens at all political, economic and social levels, develop the spirit of citizenship and enhance the sense of Egyptian and national identity among young people.

This reflects the extent of the interest of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, in empowering young people and making them active citizens to participate in all areas of life in society, and opening partnerships and cultural and knowledge exchange with all countries friendly to Egypt in various fields to refine and build the personalities of Egyptian youth and give them values through the exchange of cultures with the youth of those countries.

From the above, the First International Conference on Civic Education confirms that empowering youth is the best way to achieve sustainable development on the social, economic and environmental levels by developing their abilities for community participation, and refining critical thinking and innovation skills, through which young people become able to confront local and global challenges and transform ideas into practical initiatives that positively impact their communities.

Civic education and interactive workshops also play an effective role in young people acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality, environmental protection, and strengthening the local economy.
