Based on this global interest in oil prices, Eng. Karim Badawi, “Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources,” participated, representing the Arab Republic of Egypt, in the opening of the Baku Energy Week, which was hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan (one of the countries in the Caucasus region located between Europe and Asia), where Azerbaijani President “Ilham Aliyev” opened the activities in the capital, Baku, between June 1 and 3.

Baku Energy Week is one of the most prominent international gatherings specialized in the energy sector. It brings together representatives from 44 countries, including Egypt; In order to enhance international cooperation and establish strategic partnerships in various energy fields, with the participation of ministers, government officials, European Union officials, as well as officials of major international energy companies.

At this forum – Baku Energy Forum 2026 – the 600 regional delegates and 60 energy minister speakers discussed the future of sustainable and diversified energy systems, energy transition strategies, long-term development efforts, as well as opportunities for expansion of green energy projects.

There, Engineer Karim Badawi confirmed that Egypt possesses the capabilities that qualify it to play the role of a linking center between the Caspian Sea region and Europe in the field of energy, benefiting from its strategic location and its advanced infrastructure in the fields of natural gas and oil refining, trading, storage and export.

The gas sector in the Middle East

The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum also stressed the importance of gas infrastructure integration projects in the Middle East region, noting that they represent a successful model of regional cooperation based on achieving mutual benefit for all parties, and that they contribute to maximizing the benefit of existing resources and infrastructure, in a way that supports regional energy security, and in a way that also enhances the sustainability of supplies to various markets.

The minister explained that the Egyptian petroleum sector’s strategy is based on increasing the production of current fields, accelerating exploration activities for new fields, in addition to maximizing the added value of petroleum and natural gas by expanding refining, manufacturing and storage activities.

In the same context, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that natural gas will remain a major element in the global energy mix during the next phase, in parallel with the expansion of renewable energy projects and reducing emissions, noting that Egypt attaches great importance to enhancing regional and international cooperation and exchanging experiences in the fields of oil and gas.

Petroleum refining is a long-standing industry
