To achieve decent work.. Follow up on the development of the National Center for Occupational Safety and Health Studies

Decent work is one of the basic foundations for building more stable societies capable of achieving growth, as it is linked to providing productive job opportunities, ensuring safe professional environments, and protecting workers’ rights, in addition to enhancing productivity and improving the quality of life. Commitment to decent work standards also contributes to supporting the economy, raising the efficiency of the workforce, and creating an environment more capable of keeping pace with changes and labor market needs.

In this context, Egypt is making continuous efforts to promote decent work, by developing the work system, supporting occupational safety and health, qualifying human resources, and expanding the scope of cooperation between government institutions and the private sector.And concerned parties, in a way that supports the provision of safe work environments, enhances worker protection, and contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Field tours to support a safe work environment

From this standpoint, the Minister of Labor, Mr. Hassan Raddad, today, Monday, made a surprise visit to the National Center for Studies in Occupational Safety and Health and Securing the Work Environment, to follow up on development and new construction work, and to check on the center’s readiness to carry out its national role in spreading the culture of occupational safety and health, and qualifying human cadres in accordance with the latest standards. This comes within the framework of his field tours to follow up on the progress of work and determine the level of services provided.

The Minister inspected the ongoing construction work at the center. He also visited training workshops, training halls, and specialized laboratories, and listened to an explanation from officials about the training and qualification programs.Infrastructure development plans, and mechanisms for updating training curricula to keep pace with the rapid changes in the labor market and technological developments in the fields of occupational safety and health.

The training and qualification programs provided by the center also contribute to supporting the fourth goal: quality education, by developing the skills of human resources and preparing them to suit the requirements of the labor market and rapid technological changes.

Supporting occupational safety and health to achieve decent work

During the tour, the Minister confirmed that the National Center is considered one of the most important national centers of expertise specialized in the field of occupational safety and health and securing the work environment, and it plays a pivotal role in preparing and qualifying cadres, spreading the culture of prevention, and reducing the risks of the work environment, which is reflected in protecting the worker, and preserving…on facilities, enhancing productivity.

The Minister stressed that the development of the center comes in implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to invest in the human element and provide a safe and decent work environment, considering occupational safety and health as one of the basic pillars of achieving sustainable development and increasing the competitiveness of the national economy.

The development of the occupational safety and health system is consistent with the goals of sustainable development, most notably the eighth goal: decent work and economic growth, by supporting the provision of safe work environments, protecting the rights of workers, and raising the efficiency of human resources, in addition to its connection to the third goal: good health and well-being by reducing occupational risks and strengthening prevention measures within the workplace.

Modernization and strengthening cooperation to support safe work

As directed by the MinisterWork quickly to complete development work according to the specified timetables, while continuing to update training programs, maximizing the use of technical capabilities and specialized laboratories, and enhancing cooperation with universities, research bodies and the private sector, in a way that contributes to preparing qualified cadres capable of keeping pace with the needs of the labor market inside and outside Egypt.

The Minister confirmed that the Ministry pays great attention to the issue of occupational safety and health, as it is one of the basic rights of the worker, and that the National Center will remain the scientific and technical arm of the Ministry in supporting prevention policies and establishing a culture of safe work in various production sites throughout the Republic.
