To promote women’s empowerment...launching the Arabic version of the book Daughters of the Nile
In the presence of the Ministers of International Cooperation and Planning - Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Dr. Hala Al-Saeed - the National Council for Women celebrated the publication of the Arabic version of the book “Daughters of the Nile”, where a dialogue took place about Egyptian women who were able to change their world, and the celebration was held in cooperation with the Egyptian Peace Lovers Association and Dar Al-Shorouk.
The book “Daughters of the Nile” discusses the successes of Egyptian women in many fields, including: arts, development, banking, engineering, diplomacy, economics, finance, political science, entrepreneurship, medicine, science and technology, public relations, social services, sports, international relations, international organizations, and other sectors related to the development of peoples and achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event was titled: Women and Success, with the participation of pioneering women in many fields, including: Dr. Samia Iskandar Spencer - editor of the book “Daughters of the Nile”, Dr. Maya Morsi “President of the National Council for Women”, Professor Amira Abu Al-Majd “representing Dar Al-Shorouk”, and Dr. Tayseer Abu Victory.
Regarding the book, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat said: “Daughters of the Nile” is a book that introduces inspiring women to many girls and women in society, and sheds light on their professional paths. I am ashamed to have my name in the book next to the names of pioneering women whom I have considered my role models since my childhood. The book dealt with the period I spent at the Central Bank until 2016, and this was before my return to the International Monetary Fund.”
In the same context, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development expressed her extreme happiness with what took place in this effective dialogue, expressing her pride in being included in the list of pioneering women in the book “Daughters of the Nile,” which is considered an important opportunity to record the professional achievements of about thirty-eight Egyptian women.
This, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed hoped that the book would reap its fruit through a series of other books that talk about inspiring women everywhere. Al-Saeed pointed out two features that distinguish the book “Daughters of the Nile”: The first: changing the common stereotype about Egyptian women, and the second: presenting remarkably successful models; This is a factor that helps prepare future generations to be future leaders.
These contributions were a reason for Dr. Samia Iskandar’s feelings of happiness, as the publication of the Arabic version of her book - by Dar Al-Shorouk - represented for her a step towardsempowering women, and increasing awareness about their pivotal role in all societies.
Regarding this importance, Iskandar wondered: “Why does the Western media focus on models through which it tries to marginalize stories of success and struggle in other parts of the world?” Confirming that her first mission in the book “Daughters of the Nile” was to confront such attempts.
As for the speech of the President of the National Council for Women, she emphasized that the capabilities of Egyptian women still need to be employed in a way that enhances their role in various fields, and this is in light of the political leadership’s interest in the need to empower them. Pointing out that Egyptian women - from 2017 until now - have achieved many gains day after day.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the dialogue was opened for a number of female models participating in the book, to talk about their experiences, and this was before Dr. Tayseer Abu Al-Nasr announced a number of recommendations, including: 10 scholarships offered to women, 5 of which are in the field of professional master’s, and 5 others in the academic master’s; This is to contribute to the development of sustainable development areas.
