This year’s September issue of Earth Guards magazine comes with a special file on “Energy Transition”; To discuss the obstacle that fossil fuels represent in the way of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it also discusses the great responsibility placed on companies and the private sector - specifically - regarding this issue. Therefore, the Sustainable Steps editorial team carried out in-depth research in many sectors, searching for the best companies with sustainable steps in the energy file, in order to highlight their achievements on the ground, thus setting an example to be emulated. There is no doubt that Total Energies came at the head of these companies, to be - deservedly - worthy of having its achievements presented on the pages of Protectors of the Earth.
The beginning was in 2018, when Total - now known as Total Energies - embarked on a transformative journey; To adopt solar energy, and make it an essential part of its future strategy for the global energy market.
After three years, Total radically changed its identity, becoming “Total Energies.” Desiring to give a clear picture of its commitment to contributing to the development of various types of energy, not just fossil fuels.
Total Energies’ strategy has made carbon neutrality an essential element in the company’s future. In order to achieve the desired global goal of “net zero emissions” by the year 2050, this was not the only reason that made us dedicate this space to the French energy industry giant, but rather because of the achievements that it succeeded in achieving on the ground, specifically those that took place in Egypt.
Total Energies is continuously involved in sustainability programs, with a particular focus on innovation and creativity in all that is sustainable, to announce its own program “Sustainab’ALL”, through which it aspires to become one of the five largest global producers of solar and wind energy by 2030.
Within the framework of its ambitious vision, Total Energies seeks to reduce its carbon footprint in various parts of the world, including Egypt. To begin its first steps to achieve this dream by converting the Marsa Alam Airport warehouse to rely on solar energy, thus saving 43% of energy consumption, making it the first warehouse of its kind in Africa in terms of its reliance on solar energy.
Total’s great ambition is also crystallized in its endeavor to supply 5,000 service stations around the world with solar energy panels, and this is through investments amounting to $300 million, through which the company is committed to becoming a leader in the field of environmentally friendly energy.
As forOn the local level, Total Energies has already begun its project to convert its stations in Egypt to rely on solar energy to meet its electricity needs, and the percentage of its stations that have already been converted has reached 48% so far.
Total Energies’ great success lies not only in developing a clear strategy to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and transitioning to clean energy, but also in implementing this strategy on the ground. The green achievements we reviewed in this article are the best evidence of this, and perhaps in the coming issues we will shed light on more of its sustainable achievements in the energy sector, to be the best example to follow in the transition to clean energy. In order to achieve the goals ofsustainable development.
