What is the Global Compactof the United Nations in Egypt?

The United Nations Global Compact, launched in 2000, is the United Nations' largest initiative in private sector sustainability. The United Nations Global Compact operates in more than 160 countries, with more than sixteen thousand companies around the world as members, and establishes ten main principles when doing business in the private sector. These principles include four main axes: human rights, the environment, labor, and combating corruption, in addition to encouraging companies and stimulating actions to support sustainable development goals. The Global Compact Network Egypt Development Association is hosting the charter in Egypt.

What are the objectives and activities of the Charter in Egypt?

Raising the awareness and capabilities of the private sector, to implement the foundations of sustainability, in addition to providing applications to implement the various principles through specialized tools, and exchanging knowledge between the private sectors in various countries, with a focus on initiatives that serve specific sectors in line with the state’s directions.

What are the most prominent activities of the Charter in the coming months?

Launching the collective action project; To combat corruption in coordination with UNOD and the Administrative Control Authority, within the framework of the national anti-corruption strategy, in addition to hosting the annual meeting of the African regional networks in Cairo, and holding the Sustainable Development Forum in Africa from November 5 to 6.

What is the importance of theRegionalNext African Forum?

This forum is an exceptional opportunity to build on the successes of the COP27 International Climate Conference. It will also provide a vital platform to enhance knowledge exchange and discussion. With the aim of advancing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It serves as a platform for agreeing on transformative actions that can accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It also confirms Egypt’s regional leadership and the importance of the role of the private sector as a key partner in development, in addition to being based on the outcomes of the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, which was held in New York.
