Cairo University succeeds in winning accreditation from the UNESCO Sustainable Development Club
National institutions continue their efforts to achievethe multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and here is a new achievement added to the process of achieving these goals. This achievement relates to the field of education, science and culture, as it is attributed to the ancient Cairo University with a long history in international cooperation to spread science and culture.
Within the framework of Cairo University’s support for comprehensive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, President of Cairo University, announced that the UNESCO Club of Cairo University for Sustainable Development has been officially accredited within the Egyptian UNESCO Clubs, affiliated with the Global Network of UNESCO Clubs. The UNESCO Club at Cairo University is an innovative student platform for developing sustainable solutions consistent with the Decade of Science for Sustainable Development, and helps raise awareness of its goals among students.
Recognition of the university’s pioneering role in achieving sustainable development
This achievement represents recognition of the university’s pioneering role in integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the university’s research and academic system in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the university’s strategic plan, according to the statements of Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, President of Cairo University.

He also indicated in his statements that accreditation reflects the confidence placed by international and national institutions in the university’s path towards sustainable development and innovation, and allows the club to be a student platform for promoting volunteer work, positive participation, and openness to the experiences of nations in issues of the environment, climate, community development, and world peace.
This achievement also confirms the university’s position as a beacon of science and knowledge and its keenness to support national and global initiatives that spread awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhance human and cultural awareness among its youth and scientific community.

Last December, the University Council approved the establishment of the club and defined its vision, mission and goals. Student teams were also formed from various colleges and institutes affiliated with Cairo University to introduce the club, its goals and mission to the university community, organize introductory sessions for faculty members, staff and students, and organize a main session within the CU-Nexus Artificial Intelligence Conference entitled “The UNESCO Club at Cairo University for Sustainable Development: Empowering Artificial Intelligence”, with the participation of experts and officials, where the role of artificial intelligence in promoting education, culture and innovation was discussed. The UNESCO Club at Cairo University for Sustainable Development has become club No. 21 within the global network of UNESCO clubs, to be an institutional model in promoting UNESCO values within Egyptian universities, and supporting the sustainable development program by integrating education, culture and innovation in community service, thus contributing to achieving Cairo University’s vision towards a more sustainable future.
