The General Health Care Authority is on the path to sustainability

Health is a crown on the heads of healthy people. Without it, a person becomes worthless, which makes building his health the top priority of all; Therefore, the Egyptian government has consolidated its national commitment to striving towards a more sustainable health sector, which is something formed by the axes of the national agenda “Egypt Vision 2030”.

Hence, the General Authority for Health Care took a major step towards implementing that national commitment. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki – Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project – it issued its first report on environmental, social and governance sustainable development for the year 2024.

Sustainable Homeland

This report was the result of the partnership between the Authority and the private sector. In order to improve health care services, and work to achieve constructive integration between the public and private sectors, in accordance with “Egypt Vision 2030”, the foundations of which are based on the axes of comprehensive sustainable development, based on the fact that sustainability is the path to advancement and progress.

This report is the first report of its kind issued by a government body, in which the General Authority for Health Care reviews its strategies and achievements in the field of achieving sustainability, and this is through three dimensions: environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and sustainability of governance, which reflects the authority’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices in the health care sector. That vital sector.

With regard to environmental sustainability, the report reviewed the concept of green transformation in the health sector, pointing to pioneering projects, including the green transformation in Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and Al-Ramd Specialized Hospital in Port Said, which are two advanced models in achieving environmental sustainability standards. The General Authority for Healthcare has obtained international recognition from the Global Green Hospitals Network (GGHH), making the Authority the first Egyptian government member to join this global health body.

In the same context, the report referred to the Green Pharmacy Initiative, which aims to improve energy efficiency, conserve water in hospital pharmacies, ensure the safe disposal of medical waste, and promote the responsible use of antibiotics.

As for the social sustainability axis, the report highlighted the Authority’s role in providing health services centered around the patient himself, as this axis focuses on improving health services, enhancing health awareness and health initiatives in the governorates of the Republic. The report also pointed out the importance of community communication with the concerned authorities, which was taken into account by the Public Authority for Health Care. In order to meet the needs of citizens, and this is within the framework of a comprehensive strategy to build a humane and comprehensive health system.

With regard to governance, the report indicated that the Authority has adopted five main principles: They are: transparency, disclosure, managing conflicts of interest, awareness and training, and enhancing independence among board members. That is, the Authority is actively seeking to establish a governance system that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the comprehensive health care system.

Social Responsibility

On the other hand, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki referred to the international awards and honors obtained by the Authority – the Public Authority for Health Care – including the Gold Award in Social and Environmental Responsibility for the year 2024, awarded by the International Hospital Federation, and also the Gold Award – Safety Standards Category – granted by the Arab Hospitals Federation. These two awards – and others – are a clear reflection of the Authority’s commitment to enhancing sustainability and activating its role in implementing global standards for health care services.

Regarding this developmental role played by the Authority, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki stressed that this report not only reflects the Authority’s commitment to achieving sustainability goals, but also reflects its commitment to environmental and social sustainability while activating governance systems, and this crystallizes the Authority’s efforts in providing an integrated model for comprehensive and sustainable health care.

For this reason, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki expressed his great pride in the achievements achieved by the General Authority for Health Care, noting continued efforts to strengthen Egypt’s position as a leading model in providing integrated and sustainable health care, not only at the local level, but also at the regional and global levels as well.

Thus, the Egyptian steps are sustainable and comprehensive in a way that draws attention, which is what makesthe Earth Guardsin the first ranks; Raising awareness of everything that is sustainable, and stimulating all development steps at all levels. In fulfillment of “Egypt Vision 2030”, where the building and health of the Egyptian human being has become a priority and a duty.
