The world now stands at a crossroads, where social and economic issues are rapidly intertwined. In light of these transformations, there has become a necessity to build a knowledge economy that keeps pace with the requirements of the times. Therefore, the Egyptian state places sustainable education at the forefront of its national strategies, as it is a fundamental pillar for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) andEgypt Vision 2030.
This approach is based on enhancing the sustainability of education, through flexible systems that support lifelong learning and allow for the building of human capital capable of keeping pace with changes, which reflects a deep awareness of the importance of knowledge as a pivotal element in economic and social development. In order to achieve all the goals ofsustainable development.
In this context, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities – in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology – launched the first electronic platform for training in the fields of tourism and antiquities, under the name (EGTAP); The project reflects the integration of roles between the tourism and digital sectors in building a national model for sustainable education that supports Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Investing in human capital to achieve sustainable development
Based on the state’s vision that places investment in people at the heart of development plans, Dr. Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, confirmed that the launch of the EGTAP platform represents a strategic step to prepare human cadres capable of keeping pace with the changes in the tourism sector, and this is through modern digital tools.
He also explained that the project contributes to raising the efficiency of the labor market and improving the quality of tourism services in a way that enhances the competitiveness of the Egyptian tourism sector globally. He pointed out that the platform focuses on linking the training process to the needs of the labor market in the private tourism sector, which transforms education into an applied path that achieves a long-term economic and social impact, and translatesthe concept of sustainable education into reality.

Educational courses available on the platform
The EGTAP educational platform offers a wide range of training fields covering various aspects of the tourism and antiquities sector; They are: museums and heritage sites, food safety, history and civilization, human systems, general hotel courses, paleontology, arts and architecture, languages, scientific research, environmental awareness and sustainability, maintenance and restoration, administrative skills, sunken antiquities, occupational safety and health, tourism and hotel marketing, entrepreneurship, anddigital transformation, and computers.
This diversity reflects the integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development — social, economic, and environmental — into the educational process, which makes the platform a strategic tool for supporting practices that preserve natural resources and enrich cultural heritage.
The platform allows free registration, as trainees can create a personal file containing their basic, professional and educational data, and enroll in the available courses. The platform has currently made some free courses available, including: the basics of business administration course in English, the supervisory skills course within entrepreneurship programs, the cultural awareness course for hospitality within general hotel programs, and other courses available for free on the platform, with accredited electronic certificates being granted upon completion of any program. Training.
A strategic partnership that promotes sustainable education in Egypt
The project reflects the result of strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, an integration that enhances the implementation of Goal (17) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is related to building partnerships to achieve the goals. This partnership provides advanced digital infrastructure, supports the transfer of knowledge, and ensures the continuity of updating training programs in accordance with global sustainable education standards.
The platform embodies the principle of lifelong learning (Lifelong Learning); It provides its programs to the Ministry’s employees, and also includes workers in the public and private sectors, researchers and students, and this extension makes the educational process continuous, and is considered one of the pillars of sustainable education, where skills are developed and knowledge is continuously updated along the professional path.
The electronic model on which the platform is based enhances flexibility of access. It allows learning from anywhere and at any time. Which removes geographical and temporal barriers, and expands the circle of beneficiaries, and this characteristic represents one of the basic criteria for the sustainability of education. Because it makes knowledge comprehensively available and practically applicable in diverse circumstances.
