Nevin Al-Kabbaj…a pioneer in community sustainability

In the next few days, the world will celebrate “International Women’s Day,” which falls on March 8th every year, during which the United Nations, UNICEF, and the entire world seek to highlight the role of women in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an international day that the peoples of the world use to support strategies for empowering women everywhere, which makes it one of the steps to enhance their rights – socially, economically and culturally – to ensure the implementation of the aspirations and hopes of all parts of society.

This year – 2024 – is the second year in a row, in which the Earth Guards participate in celebrating International Women’s Day, by highlighting the achievements of prominent Egyptian and Arab women and pioneers – scientifically and practically – in their fields; Therefore, in the coming days, the magazine will accompany you through a journey – a series of articles on International Women’s Day – expressing honorable feminist models whose professional career has shone in the skies of Egypt and the Arab world, and this is through achievements that have inspired women of the whole world. So that empowering them will be a just way of life and a form of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As for the heroine of this article, she is Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj “Minister of Social Solidarity”, whom we are honoring for the second year in a row, and we will highlight her achievements and efforts during the past year; She began her professional career by working as a researcher at Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, and this was before the year 1992 was the year she obtained a master’s degree in political science from Carleton University in Canada, and in this country she worked since 1995 at the University of Ottawa.

Eight years later – in 2003 – Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj returned to Egypt, where she became a strategic planning advisor at the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, and in which she was able to prepare a national strategy under the title: Stop Violence Against Children; Which qualified her after two years to manage the child protection program in the UNICEF Egypt office.

Then her efforts culminated in June 2018 in her selection as Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, and after that she became Minister of Social Solidarity, beginning a new story of success and development, the last of which was her presidency of the work of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs in its forty-third session, at the end of last year.

Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj had efforts and successes in the Ministry of Social Solidarity, where she implemented policies related to social protection for all classes of the people, and for those most deserving of care, as she allocated to them a financial budget that had never occurred before, including financial support “Solidarity and Dignity,” and this is in light of a new social contract between the government and the people, and based on participation.

This is in addition to what Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj provided through the Ministry of Social Solidarity regarding the provision of basic services in rural, urban, and desert areas, as well as the establishment of a fund to combat and treat addiction and abuse, and other psychological support and social rehabilitation services, with economic empowerment programs, training the recovered in crafts needed by the labor market, and other humanitarian achievements, which included all segments of society, from the first thousand days until the age of Pension.

Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj is an Egyptian woman who has made her professional life a great opportunity to achieve the aspirations of many segments of society. So that its journey will truly be a sustainable path, and an actual image of solidarity between man and his brother. In an effort to achieve the goals ofsustainable development, which are in line with Egyptian trends in recent years. All of this makes Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj – Minister of Social Solidarity – a pioneering and inspiring model for the women of Egypt and the Arab world.
